I have been with Dish for 15 years and have 2 Hoppers with AT250 ( I think the first version - got them in 2012 ). About 6 month ago we got the new UI. Not really happy with as it's very slow. The old software worked great. The new ui .. not so much.
Last sw update ( April 10 ) broke the ability to fast forward or skip fwd and rev when crossing over to the other hopper via the sources function.
And in addition it's really slow. Almost unusable when prime time is recording...
I called ( I really hate calling cause I can never fully understand everything that are saying due to the accents) and after running me through the scrips ( 15 minutes of useless pain ) she offered to upgrade me to two hoppers with sling.
Now ... do any of you have two Hopper/sling units? If so does the crossing work OK??
Seems to me the hopper3 would have been the best solution but they want $100 for the upgrade.
We are looking at Sling, DirectTV and DirectTVNow as a replacement. $100 buys a lot of tv time.

The playback issues may get fixed with the next software update but your Hopper being slow won't. And the Hopper 2 won't be much better. IMO the only thing that would give you the experience you deserve is a Hopper 3. I'd recommend going with a single Hopper system. With the 16 tuners the Hopper 3 has, you only need one and will give you far less trouble than a two Hopper system. Call Dish back and tell them your system is too slow and unusable. Tell them what you told us, if you don't get the Hopper 3 upgrade for free, you're jumping ship.

The Hopper 1, aka Hopper 2000, is for all practical purposes next to unusable.

Go ahead and give up the redundancy and get a H3 with Joey 3. The difference will be night and day. And your bill might actually go down.

As my second HWS is slowly failing, I may do that. Or I may go with FiOS.

The things Dish has done with their software has left a bad taste in my mouth.

The inability to get a straight answer out of the FiOS folks leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

And after my last experience with Cox Cable, I’d go OTT and OTA only before going with them again. They’re the ones that drove me to Dish. Dish’s $10/month plan back then certainly helped.

Either way, I’ll have to take a Monica.

To add to this, use this number to get directly through to the Loyalty Department: 1-888-496-1260
They have more authority to make better deals than a regular CSR can offer you, and they are based in America, which should reduce any difficulty in understanding foreign accents.

Thank All ...

Yea .. I called the Loyalty number...they passed me on to another department... best they could do was charge me $107 for the hopper 3 then credit me $40 on my next bill .. Then put me in a 2 year contract with a $15 cost reduction for the 2 years.... And of course the Hopper 3 cost increase from $12 to $15
The heck of it is ... The Mother-in-law came over last week ( I didn't know about it ) and asked about getting Dish ... My wife said "No Way .. to Slow" ... So now She is over to the Mother-in-Law's .. Just called .. They got DirectTVNow some apple tv device and are thrilled .... Now apparently so is my Wife ..
I told her about the deal .. But all she can see it the $107 up front.
So looks like we are jumping ship....

Depending on where you live you may or may not get your local channels, if that matters to you.

Also, as you probably know, you will need pretty fast and unlimited internet.

The local channels have always been a bust.. We live in southern Iowa and are forced to have central IA channels.
How fast is needed??? I just signed up for Netflix and Hulu. Netflix is streaming ok... with 25meg unlimited....

That how i got my free H3 upgrade. You might need to sign a new contract but its well worth it. I doubt 25mb internet will do much good especially if you want to stream to more than one tv.

Sent from my SM-G950U using the SatelliteGuys app!

25meg unlimited should be enough but by the time you pay for Netflix, Hulu and DirecTV Now you might be paying almost as much as you would for a Dish package with locals. And there's nothing like a Hopper 3. :)

I want it all, except one thing I DON'T want, is to pay for it.

Yes, your Hopper Fee may go up but by replacing the other Hopper with a Joey, it goes down $5 - $8 per month, depending on what you're paying for it now, so you still save money in the long run

Get past the $107.00 upgrade charge. You can't surely don't expect to get something better for nothing, do you?
Comcast upgraded me to their latest hardware for nothing, because they're really nice guys? No. Because they want to keep taking my money every month. This is a bad move by Dish. They should be less worried about upgrade fees and more focused on customer retention.

True, but he'd probably want to keep Netflix and Hulu even if he stayed with Dish, so the only comparison here is between Dish and Directv Now and if the wife's happy with it...

Comcast over charges so much, they can afford to upgrade you for free just so they can keep over charging you

Yea, not really. The comparison would be between DirecTV Now and Sling TV. And just because you might want to have Netflix and Hulu in addition to a regular Dish subscription with a Hopper 3 doesn't mean everybody else would.
