VIP612 Internet deafness

I just spent probably an hour on the phone after Pam recommended their Internet tech support. Of course the regular (tier 1?) tech support wouldn't do that until I did everything over again that Pam told me to do. No go. The receiver is on the net for a time, but mostly it give either error 789 (no broadband) or 145 (can't connect to server).

The regular tech support lady (nice, but firm) finally started doing what sounded in the background like a chat with their Internet support guru's (tier 3?) After a few more tests, they declared this a problem with Cox (my ISP) since all 3 receivers are doing the same thing. I seriously doubt that Cox is to blame, due to the fact that other equipment works fine. I am at my wit's end.

And navy, before you suggest a Hopper, what guarantee can I get that a new receiver will suddenly start working.

I have Cox, and honestly, my WiFi sucked. I hardlined. Never had better service with my Dish features.

I only have a cable modem and service from Cox; I use my own wireless router. So, if that is acting up, then it's on me.

As for wired, I emphatically agree about that. All my receivers are hardwired. Mydish.com says they're online. Sometimes the receivers say they are online as well, via menu-6-1-8 (from memory) or the Diagnostics screen which menu numbers escape me at the moment. I'm stumped. They used to be rock solid/always online.

Since it now sounds like TheKrell's problem is more widespread than just the one ViP612, I will make you the same offer, if you want to try switching to another ViP612 to try to solve the problem. My old one is just taking up space in my closet not doing anyone any good, so I will be glad to get rid of it. First come, first served.
I appreciate the offer, but as I said, I have done no troubleshooting of my system yet. It hasn't been an issue for me as I generally use Netflix or Amazon Prime for streaming.

Scott, IIRC you too have Cox. Do you have any problem downloading movies via your H3?

Do Joey 3's work on GigE rather than MoCA? Can they be set up that way to begin with, rather than sticking them on a coax first? Do the remotes on H3's and J3's work through walls/floors/ceilings? Is anybody (not just Scott) able to browse and download movies off the Internet? How much does a J3 cost, if I want to buy one and activate as needed? How much do J3's cost/month? How much will a H3 cost/month? (I am grandfathered on the $7/mo DVR fee.)

God I can't believe I'm contemplating this just because Dish screwed up previous functionality on my VIP receivers. :(

$7 per month. I’m sure you can do the Ethernet hook up, however I would not recommend it. Others may.
If you’re talking about the PPV purchase where you can purchase the movie and not just rent it, yes, it has worked for me. Actually, tbh, my Joey 3 generally works better than my H3... once I got the internet situation figured out(Cox fault)

Thanks Chad. $7/mo/J3, or is that the DVR fee?

I have no idea which PPV you are talking about. I am talking about the iVOD stuff that I access via the DVR button and selecting things like Dish Movie Pack. I do not pay for these "rentals", though I could if I removed the $0 PPV credit limit from my account.

The Hopper 1,2 and 3 DVR charge is $15 a month, but you might be able to get it down to $10 a month for 2 years as a loyal customer. The Joey 1,2 and 3 charge is $7 a month but you also might be able to get that down to $5 a month as a loyal customer.

Have you tried removing the $0 limit to see if that fixes your current problem?
