QUINCY MEDIA TAKEDOWN

Effective XX/XX/XX, Quincy Media has been taken down. Quincy Media is demanding an unreasonable rate increase, which is more than double what we currently pay for their channels. DISH offered to match the rates paid by other pay-TV providers; Quincy Media refused this offer.
Impacted DMAs:

DMA Local Network
Binghamton, NY CBS
Bluefield, WV NBC & CW
Cedar Rapids, IA NBC & CW
Duluth, MN CBS, NBC, & MNT
La Crosse, WI ABC
Madison, WI ABC
Peoria, IL NBC, ABC & CW
Quincy, IL NBC & FOX
Rochester, MN NBC
Rockford, IL NBC
Sioux City, IA NBC & CW
Wausau, WI ABC & CW
Ft. Wayne, IN NBC & ABC

Yep, lost our local ABC affiliate WKOW 27 here in Madison Wis. last night. Normally it would just be a minor inconvenience to watch OTA instead but with the ongoing OTA pixelation problems that have plagued my Joey's and all recordings for over a year it's a larger PITA. Haven't thought much about "moving" until now. If I do where should I move to?

Assuming you're on Eastern Arc, some options would be Milwaukee, Chicago, Rockford... SatelliteGuys.US_TheList - Dish Network

It really burns me up that I have no power to get to the truth of these situations. What does one have to do...hire a lawyer? I wrote my congressman and senator...nothing. I called Dish and they told me that Quincy Media demanded that Dish pay twice as much as all the other companies. I called Quincy Media and they told me that they offered Dish the same contract as all the rest of the similar type companies but Dish refused to pay what the others were paying. How do I figure out who is telling the truth? They’re all a bunch of liars just like all the politicians. Democrats or Republicans they all are lying to us and I just can’t stand being lied to. The heads of these parties are tearing the normally kind and generous people of America apart causing fear, anger and lies. I think instead of the American citizens fighting each other over being democrats or republicans we should turn our anger on those who deserve it and at the very least we start demanding truth from those who are supposed to be working for us. We pay Dish for their services. The least they could do is what they promised. The DishPromise.com promises us that if there is a problem Dish will work 24/7 to work things out with the station. I want to know exactly who they have working on this problem and what are they doing 24/7 to fix this. Sorry to be so angry... I am handicapped and bedridden and that was my favorite channel. Really?

Take a larger look at channel disputes and tell me what provider has been involved in most of them?

Either Dish is truly putting up a fight here, for something that is not right and the other providers just accept the price increase and move on.

Or the problem is DISH.

Could be wrong, but I would lay odds on it looking at Dish Networks track record that the issue is DISH.

No question at one time it was your first scenario. Directv and Cable overall were indeed paying without much of a fight and DISH would not. But there have been more disputes over the last couple of years that involve Directv and even Cable than they had in the pat to indicate they are taking at least a little harder stand. DISH has the more for sure.

We have no right to know so a lawyer wouldn't get us anything. The problem is you talked (I'm guessing) to a CSR which means zero, nada , nothing. They have no clue what is going on and are given generic things to answer.
The DISH official response is;
"Andy LeCuyer, DISH senior vice president of programming, said Quincy was "demanding" higher rates at "more than double what DISH currently pays." Not the same as more than anyone else.

Here's Quincy's statement I got on a Station site.
"Our station is asking for fair and reasonable terms and compensation from DISH. We are not asking anything more from DISH than we did from any other programming provider. And we successfully concluded fair agreements with everyone else, without delays or disputes."

From those two statements I have no doubt indeed they are asking for more than double what DISH presently pays. Not surprisingly Quincy feels what they are asking is fair and likely they are indeed asking what they did of others. So DISH does not want to pay double while it may be the others didn't care.

This is true. I don't know if it was resolved (quickly) or not, but Mediacom and Quincy Media are(were) in the same boat, from what I was told last week

At least, a lot of folks can get the OTA signal directly, without Dish locals.

Maybe a TiVo or similar is in your future. Or, at least, an OTA tuner attached to your Dish receiver.

Key words there. They said they are not asking for more than what they asked other providers to pay. They did not say that they actually got as much from the other providers as they were asking them to pay.

Good catch. Yes the others may have agreed but at what price? DISH may be asking for less than the others offered but did they actually pay 200% more?

If the Mediacom in Quincy is like the Mediacom in my town, then it will not be great. Mediacom in my town will go out or will freeze up on certain channels. I am not sure about Mediacom Telephone, but the cable and the Internet are both horrible. Mediacom Internet promises the customer faster internet speeds, than Frontier High Speed, but like their cable it is down more than it is up.

I just put one of ours up on my house last week. Works perfect. Watched the Bills game on OTA NBC and not a glitch.
