Livewave

Anyone know anything about the Livewave antenna?

LiveWave Antenna: The Future of TV Watching

I haven't heard of it, but I think their stock photo is amusing with the guy shoving a fistfull of popcorn into his face

Asking for my brother BTW. Just ran his address through antennaweb.org, and it comes back with zilch, so it probably is a moot point. Still, I'd be interested to know what people think about the product as I have my own OTA challenges.

Some time ago I tried a Radio Shack product that did this. It worked about as well as rabbit ears. Not sure if I kept it or not. but I would be quite skeptical.

On Facebook the past few days I have seen a ton of ads for devices that look like miniature Star Wars Death Stars that are supposed to act as antenna which is supposed to pull in over 100 local channels and 800 premium channels.

They are selling them for $49.99 each.

I reported the ads to Facebook as fraud. And they replied back there was nothing wrong with the ads.

The old saying a fool and his money are soon parted, holds true here.

Radio waves have not changed... digital / analog... still all just basic radio waves.

There's nothing wrong with the ads because they paid their invoice for them.

Most of the pictures make it look like it could be some sort of omnidirectional antenna in disguise but then you see that it is about 2-1/2" in diameter.

Does the fact that your FM clock radio uses its power cord for an antenna allow it to pick up stations from dozens of miles away in all directions?

I wonder if it is set up to deal with an outlet that has the hot wire (black) on the neutral screw (silver).

If there's one thing this device may do better than any other it would be its ability to pick up a path (as in multipath) for every branch in your wiring.

Facebook is ok with all sorts of fraud apparently: https://gizmodo.com/facebook-let-kids-rack-up-charges-on-parents-credit-car-1832053733

Back in the early days of attempts at OTA pay TV (including OnTV that used a high gain UHF Yagi and a sync inversion decoder box), there were some spherical antennas being tested (IIRC, in the Chicago market) that were supposed to be the only antenna that would receive the pay signal. I think it had something to do with the polarity/alignment/shape of the signal.

I think I read about it in a Popular Science article (not the inflatable one from 2007, more like the later 1970s).

Of course these new antennas have as much in common with the old spherical antennas as the set-top rabbit ears that featured a plastic parabolic dish had with DBS antennas.
