I am getting word that there may be another price increase of DirecTV Now and that increase is up to $10 a month.

This increase will be announced this week.

No named source, but this article sounds even worse:
DIRECTV NOW Will Reportedly Raise its Price $10 a Month Next Week & Launch 2 New Packages

Dropping from four packages to two, both with less channels for new customers. Existing can keep the package they have with $10 increase, but will lose if they drop service and come back.

The long time coming Directv service via streaming instead of satellite is said to be the same pricing as satellite, the all included prices (think $93 or more).
That's crazy - no equipment, paying the all inclusive price that they created to include HD, DVR, MRV fees, all while using your own broadband and equipment. Way overpriced.

It's almost like they needed to improve the service and capacity, so they decided to reduce their customer base and reduce their offerings (channels) so there is less demand on their service.
This isn't the case, it's solely about trying to move from a product losing money to a product that is profitable, but everyone else in the infancy streaming market it not that profit focused yet - it will continue to see AT&T bleed subscribers.

Lots of wise prophets on this forum saw this coming. "Cheap streaming" will eventually go away as it becomes more and more mainstream.

It looks like AT&T is leveraging HBO to sweeten its DTV Now packages. $50 for a channel package that includes HBO could be a really nice thing depending on what those other channels are, which at this point remains to be seen. I wouldn't put too much stock, however, in a rumor-based article on Cord Cutters News regarding what is actually going to happen. I guess we'll see later this week.

I was thinking the same thing. If the package includes HBO, the $50 price point is easier to swallow. Assuming one finds value in hbo of course.

The directv packages (not NOW) and the prices rumored for them are insane however.

It's like AT&T is doing this to piss people off enough to cancel. Giving fuel to the people who say cord cutting isn't worth it.

Then you will have the usual suspects here saying...... See I told you. Same people that have been telling me for years that my Internet access is going up. It actually went down this year. Competition I guess.

The funny thing is while they're calling a 65+, 85+, 105+, and 125+ channel packages a "streaming version of DIRECTV", those are the current channel numbers for the current largest 3 English packages they have on DirecTV Now. So we already probably know what these new packages look like. The 105+ is going from $65 to $124. That's ridiculous. If I'm paying that much, I want dedicated hardware that's being provided to me that isn't piggybacking on my internet while having the reliability of satellite.

The channel lists for the new DTV Now packages have been posted and they don't look good (IMO): Compare Packages Account

The new Plus ($50) and Max ($70) packages with HBO include no channels from the Scripps, Viacom, Discovery, Lifetime, AMC, and A&E channel families. The Max does include Cinemax, however, and RSNs. So pretty much anything available on Philo is no longer available for new DTVN customers. No word on what kind of DVR service or number of streams come with these new packages.

So here is my thinking on this..I have Att fiber 1 gig service, I pay 100 a month. I have the gig service because it has unlimited date, so for 150 a month plus taxes I get hulu live and att fiber. I am missing a couple channels I want but not willing to go to crazy to jack my bill up get said channels. If the directv price price stays the same and they have the same rules (bundle directv with att fiber you get 10 off your internet plus unlimited date, i could drop down to the 300 download price (which would suit my needs fine) and my bill would look like this. Current gig service (100) plus hulu live (50) is 150. 300 meg service (60) plus directv streaming (93) is 153 plus taxes and I get those channels I was missing and a more robust channel lineup....am I missing something? where do I sign up today lol.

And the page has been removed!

They are going to try to compete on three different levels of streaming it seems, with Watch/NOW/Directv, but its just a poor attempt IMO. Watch is affordable, but little in the way of sports.

Now is priced too high for what it offers. It has the sports channels, but others offer the same channels and more at a much lower price.

And no apparent savings on the streaming of their regular Directv packages, unless they change something.

This will probably be the best thing to happen to YTTV/Hulu/Vue, as I can see alot of Now customers swapping to a competitor.

YouTube TV + Philo + HBO Now would run you $71. One dollar more than DTVN Max. Sure, you don't get Cinemax. But you get a couple dozen top cable channels many households consider "must have" (HGTV, Food Network, AMC, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Discovery, A&E, History, etc.) How many people consider Cinemax "must have"? And how comparable is DTVN's DVR to YTTV's and Philo's?

I guess my question would be, how long do the sports networks, such as NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, those channels, stay with the current subscribers?

I might have been interested in this, but it looks like they dropped Comedy Central. Didn't they include that previously?

I had a free trial of DirectvNOW, and I really did not see the point. I tried the "just right" package and, like cable and Directv, loaded with a lot of channels I never watch. Trying YTTV right now for a month with the roku offer they had last month. It has a good balance of channels I watch but it takes a long time to load a channel, this may be because of their expansion to nationwide availability.
