Lost Fox 23 Albany, NY

Thanks JSheridan!! Was there a thread on it? Was it all Fox or just my local? We wondered why we didn't get The Last Man Standing and The Cool Kids. Thought they just had a week off then I noticed it was missing from my guide today when I was looking for the weather report at 6. Don't get to watch a lot of live TV so I didn't notice it right away.

It's just 23 WXXA and and one other station in Lansing MI that is owned by Shield Media AFAIK. Because so few stations are involved it's probably not a priority at DISH.

Apparently there is a possible dispute with KIRO 7 Seattle. Since we are paying $12 a month for locals, just up them to $13 a month, to stop this. If the people want the locals, let them pay for them, if not the local in dispute will have less viewers.

Better FCC should allow the sale of individual locals.

Hopefully they'll have it settled before we get back up north in mid-April, but at least our service address there gets two DMA's, so two stations for each network.

I wish I had that. AT&T, Spectrum, and Dish have all lost local channels over the years. I used to get Greensboro locals when I had DirecTV back in 2004-2006, but they stopped doing that for some reason.

Bennington County, VT is one just a few places that get dual DMA's on Dish and other services. They're actually in the Albany, NY DMA, but a federal law permits them to also receive an in state DMA if there is one. In this case, it's the Burlington, VT DMA.

I always felt that since locals are being sold separately, if a deal cannot be made, then offer the locals for a higher rate to the subscribers. I would rather pay $13 or $14 a month instead of losing the channel(s) for who knows how long. Years ago when Dish had the dispute with Fisher, we lost the channel for 6 months! I think most would rather have their rate go up a buck or two to keep the channel.

Would you tolerate those "buck or two" raises for each local in your DMA?

So nice of Senator Leahy to write that in for Vermont and leave everyone else in the same situation with no in state solution. Funny people I work with that have cable in Berkshire County couldn't understand why I never saw something on the news from our state that they were talking about. Told them I could only get Albany, NY on my Dish and no there is no cable where I live, YET. Well about 2 years ago TWC, now Spectrum dropped all the in state locals they were carrying on the cable systems and now they can only get Albany. Can't watch their beloved Patriots most of the time. Thanks again Senator Leahy for being selfish for Vermont.

Read the appropriate "orphan counties" section of STELA. The rule is not specific to Vermont. In 2015, the FCC broadened the market mod rules even further. Note that rule does not mandate carriage of in-state locals for orphan counties, it allows such carriage on request by the TV station, satellite operator, or county government.

Apparently Dish averted the loss of KIRO. There was a message on ch 8.0 saying KIRO may be removed, but by the 1st of the month the message was gone.
