DISH OTA antenna

Got mine installed today and this is, indeed, the antenna they installed
This is the antenna the tech installed for me back in May. However, since I live around DC and close to the "towers", the tech installed it as an indoor antenna only. Of course, it did not pick up all the stations that my attic antenna was pulling in (including multiple Baltimore stations). Oh well, at least I got the Dual OTA Adapter. I connected the attic antenna to it and dropped the Dish locals. Most of the OTA guide data is correct.

That was the lazy techs' way of getting out of doing the hard work of mounting it outside and running new cable to the Hopper. We had guys pulling that stunt here, too

and is it working ok, any surprises?
It's working fine--the tech attached it to my existing dish installation and it actually gets better signal (for my situation) in passive mode (no amplifier). Surprises? Yes--the tech when he found out I had a custom install with wall plates and realized I wasn't just going to let him drill a hole through the wall. ;) The only thing that really disappoints me (but has already been mentioned here by others) is that some sub-channels have no guide information. Also the sun was behind the dish after he was done so I couldn't get a decent pic, I'll take one and post it tomorrow.

I'm very pleased that Dish did this for us...and at no cost--just to make our household of TV watchers happy. I know a lot of people complain about Dish but IMHO this is customer service at it's best.

Ah! Another possible attendee to our IED defusing party!

Is 2020 good for you, or is 2021 better?

I hope that the OTA antenna works for you. I have had two of them installed with different results. On the Hopper 3 it works flawlessly. On the Hopper with Sling, new OTA recordings can’t be played until the HWS is restarted. Had no choice but to resubmit to Dish locals on the HWS.

On the HWS - new recordings can be played right away if you highlight the show and press play. Do not press select, then press play - just highlight and then press play...

Thanks for the tip! Assuming it plays the most recent episode if you do it that way.

OTA recordings have been broken for a while now but Dish has no idea what I’m talking about when I call tech support.

Select the episode ya wanna watch and hit play.

I think the install is clean, looks like something I would have done back east. You don't see many houses here in Phoenix with that style siding, roof and soffit. My house is all stucco with a terra cotta roof which is what most seem to be.

When I had a 722vip receiver I used the local module and hooked it up to my antenna. The problem was the signal was not stable and I had a lot of error messages. The antenna was a deep fringe Channel Master with booster/amplifier and atop a 60' tower. I live a long way from most of the towers (one is seven miles away but the others are over 50 miles). Every little gust of wind would move the antenna just enough to cause problems and I was constantly fooling with the rotor to realign the antenna to the precise point it needed for a good signal. When I got my Hopper and Joey I did away with this and bought the locals package. I would like to go to an antenna again but not the way I had it before. I don't know about the Dish antenna but if that big Channel Master on top of a 60' tower was not reliable I doubt that Dish will put one up that is more powerful - and higher in the air.
