New DISHANYWHERE Player Discussion

IIRC, DishAnywhere (old version) used Adobe Flash which Adobe abandoned development of four years ago. So, Dish and many other video providers have to change the entire way their streaming works or let us use a streaming player that is vulnerable to hacking, etc.

OK, so if they replaced the player that would be great. They didn't have to completely screw up the guide and the DVR menu, force streaming options into the DVR lists, get rid of the Live TV button, get rid of the remote feature, and all the other negative changes they made and features they eliminated.

Especially since they still had the better part of a year til Flash support is discontinued.

So as an update I just talked to Tech Support by phone. All issues appear to be not uncommon and already have working tickets with no estimate on fixes. At this point DA on the PC has become almost useless as now new shows recorded do not show up even though the ones deleted days ago are still there. Can stream channels but the progress bar not going away is an annoyance.

All that is hit or miss. My progress bar stopped sticking and I can watch new DVR'd content. I think the old shows still showing is just a link to streaming those shows that is part of the new (and terrible) DVR menu

For me it usually takes days before new shows show up in the DVR menu if they ever do, the list has shows I didn't record, it has shows I deleted, the list sort is wrong and other errors.

And I still can't watch Live TV or DVR shows unless I use a VPN.

That's odd, because I watch live TV every day with it on my PC, Of course, I have to log out and back in for it to go to the channel I want

So an update. Looks like today most of the problems I was having with DA have been corrected. The DVR guide including PTA seem to be updating now and communicating with my hopper. I did notice not all timers show up on DA, but maybe it only shows timers that have shows to be recorded in the next week. The red line(progress bar) still does not fade away on live TV streaming. Hopefully they will be able to make the streaming resolution better as well.

I'm glad your's is better because it sure isn't here. I still only get an error 2009 when trying to stream from the DVR list or guide and the DVR list is ALWAYS wrong.

I wish DISH would just piggy back off the real SlingBox app. I like the way I have full control of everything in my Hopper 3 with my real attached SlingBox 500. DISH should be able to make that happen.

Have you spoken to them. I left feedback through the link on DA and they called and got more info on the specific problems, they say individual examples are helping the coders fixing the problems. I gave them temporary access to go into my DA and they can bring up ypor Hopper and compare.

Yes we've been in touch. They have no fix for the error 2009 yet that apparently is affecting a lot of people.

Well that didn't last long. It looked like they had fixed things, it worked ok for a few days, now it is back to not showing newly recorded content in DA again.

Since everyone is using the same DA app (presumably), and all the H3's are using the same software, it appears that DA problems are mostly due to local conditions within or connecting to the problem users network.

I can connect to my DA from this desktop using Chrome on Windows8.1, From another desktop using Edge Beta on windows 10 and from a laptop (a rather old laptop that came with Windows 7 but has been upgraded to Windows 10 with the Chrome browser.

Here's how I ALWAYS do it - 1. Log into www.myDish.com and log in to my Dish Network account. 2. Click on DishAnywhere and scroll down to the red WatchNow button. Click the big red WatchNow button. 4. When the DishAnywhere page loads, click on the login in the upper right, my dish account passes the username and password to DA, - click on login under your username and password. 5. Click on Guide to watch live satellite or click on DVR to watch recorded programming.

For me, it works EVERY time. I have connected to my H3 from Dallas, Denver and several other places and I have never had it fail to work.

Go figure!

Well, this still doesn't work. Now I get error 2052. At least that is something new! This is on my Mac using Safari or Chrome. Same error message. And yes, I tried the post above suggestion. Still a no go. Wish they would fix this. SJ

Now that Microsoft has released their Chrome-based Edge browser, I tried it out with Dish Anywhere (on Windows 10) and I am not impressed.

The video image quality is very bad. With the old Dish Anywhere player, I was getting bit rates of about 8.2Mbps and the video looked very good. With the new Dish Anywhere player (using Microsoft Chromium Edge) I am only getting bit rates of 700Kbps to 1Mbps, and the video looks terrible.

I am using Dish Anywhere at home on my own network. The video looked so bad that I thought it was going out over the internet rather than staying on my home network, but I pulled the cable that connects my modem to my wireless router, and the video kept playing (proving that the video does not go out over the internet). Even though the video is staying on my home network, the video bit rates do not go above 1Mbps!

The poor video, and the removal of many of the features that were present in the old Dish Anywhere player make the new player much worse as compared to the old player.

I hope that Dish will continue to work on Dish Anywhere and can make it work at least as good as what we had before!

EDIT: After watching for a while, I noticed that the bit rate for the video did eventually increase to an acceptable level, but it took almost a half-hour for the video bit rate to increase. The old player also started out at a lower rate but it increased rapidly (only took a minute). The new player stayed at less than 1Mbps for about 30 minutes before gradually increasing to 8-9Mbps.

Follow up: Today, it only took 5 minutes for the video bit rate to gradually increase from 700Kbps to 8.5Mbps. That is much better than the 30 minutes that it took yesterday. Maybe the bit rate increases more slowly the first time that you use Dish Anywhere?

Anyway, I just wanted to say that the video quality looks better today than it did yesterday when I tried the Dish Anywhere player for the first time using Microsoft's new Chromium Edge browser.

Another follow up to my two previous posts:

Today, the video image quality is very bad. I am only getting bit rates of 700Kbps to 1Mbps, and the video looks terrible. I have been watching for 25 minutes, and the video bit rate has not increased at all. It has remained steady at 700Kbps to 1Mbps.

Last week, when I first tried out the new Microsoft Chrome Edge browser, it took about 30 minutes before the bit rate gradually started to increase. However, the next day, it only took about 5 minutes before the video bit rate started to increase.

Previously, the bit rate did eventually increase to 8-9Mbps and the video looked good. Today, the bit rate is again stuck at 700Kbps to 1Mbps, and the video looks bad!
