I've been thinking of switching to Direct TV. DO they have a receiver equivalent to a VIP722?

Something with 2 tuners I can use to run multiple TVs in my house?

I’d ask for a HS17 Genie2 server. It can record/serve up to 7 different channels to clients either via coax or wireless plus support two concurrent 4K channels.

Jeff,

DirecTV does NOT have a receiver that can serve two TV's without another client box or a second receiver, sadly you will have to pay a monthly fee for a Second Receiver or Client box.

As stated by RAD you can get a GENIE receiver either the HR44 or HR54 which has 5 tuners and you can connect a Wireless Client or Wired Client box to an additional TV that will use one of the Tuners from either HR44 or HR54, alternately you can get the GENIE 2 AKA HS17 which has more tuners, but if you have a HS17 you can NOT have any other Receivers (With their own Tuner) on your account you MUST use Client Boxes for additional TV's.

Lastly the HR44 or HR54 Genies will NOT output 4K via its HDMI output, you can get 4K content from the HR54 But only if you use a 4K client box when connected to a HR54.

There are some QAM HD modulators pretty cheap on eBay.

You could have 2 Tv’s watching the same thing in both rooms with HD

That mod works very nicely for the price

Well, my current setup is:

VIP722 located in bedroom.

It feeds:
Main TV in living room via a long HDMI cable. (TUNER 1)
Bedroom TV via component video. (TUNER 1)

8 TVs throughout the house and back porch with SD feed via coax from a distribution splitter/amplifier. (TUNER 1 or TUNER 2 depending on modulated channel selected)

I also have coax runs terminated with antennas around the house that help the remote controls communicate with the receiver.

My family is conditioned to watch Tuner 1 or Tuner 2 and understands the concept. We would be fine with a Q-AM modulator as long as we had remotes in each room to control what we watch on each TV.

I also own one of those Q-AM modulators I bought to run a home theater PC project that never really came to fruition. I live in a VERY RURAL area and after 10 years finally got a fixed wireless broadband solution so we are enjoying smart TVs for the first time. It kind of sidelined the whole HTPC thing.

We do not own a 4K TV and my family doesn't know what a 4K signal even looks like. I fine keeping it that way for now. :D

I really don't want to start hanging individual boxes off of TVs, especially if they are going to charge me a monthly fee per box.
Will I get hassled by Direct TV installer or direct TV over my number of TVs when they come out to install?
Does their receiver have a remote control antenna system?

You can make any directv receiver RF.

SO just get 2 boxes, put them side by side and use a QAM Modulator.

There you go, better then dish with SD on tv2

They won't share the DVRs though will they?
VIP has 1 DVR that plays on either modulated channel. It also records on either tuner.

Also, RF remote strength? Are you able to expand your RF remote strength through a coax run and antennas?

Probably your best bet with Directv is to get a Genie and one client. The Genie is "tuner 1" and the client is "tuner 2" and you should be able to hook things up similar to how you have now. Don't know how powerful the RF remote is, it probably isn't going to go through a bunch of walls if that's what you're asking.

Getting two regular receivers or two regular DVRs would end up more expensive because that's not what Directv sells anymore. They want customers to use a Genie/clients, and make it more expensive to choose older hardware.

I have done it with the H25’s using cat5 with a special adaptor.

Can’t do it on the HR24 models since the remote does not attract to the receiver.

There are always IR REPEATER KITS
