DTV calling it quits (more or less)

Wife says they got a new Direct TV dish antenna. So I take it they got the satellite service. How could that happen if AT&T is wanting their U-verse customers to switch to the Now services?
As I've mentioned previously, if you call and request a service, they WILL still sell it to you, as long as your in an area that its availabe ... (in U Verse area or have LOS for D*)
Those stating that they won't sell D* anymore are nuts ....
They said they are not basically promoting D*, not not selling it.

They are only promoting the newest streaming service. Cable, satellite and their other streaming services are all available, but it isn’t what they want to sell. More like not wanting a ‘no sale’!

If you Want a service ... YOU call Them, they give you that service.

Not promoting something doesn't mean they don't sell it.
 
I was a 12' dish KU and C band user in the 80's, a DTV, TIVO user then Dish for the last 15 years

Dish and the Hopper 3 is absolutely elegant in operation and presentation. Just need to make sure you are always on top of the latest pricing promotions and I'm fine
 
My wife told me a couple of days ago our neighbors said they just switched to Direct TV. They were on AT&T U-verse. I don't know the reasons they have switched, haven't talked to them. I don't know if I will ever find out the circumstances on why they did such a dreadful move. I wished they would have asked me about doing such a thing but they didn't. I would guess AT&T was behind such a thing like this. Really sad.
When new people moved in across the street from me, where a Dish van stands in the driveway every day, I came to see a DTV dish on their roof. SMH

DirecTV is owned by AT&T, Dish has a affiliation with Google.

and Dish has lost millions also-

14 million Sat. subscribers in 2014
9.40 million Sat. subscribers end of 2019

And as far as a tech upgrade, when was the last time Dish launched a new Satellite, I believe it was 8 years ago, do they have any on order, not that I can find, neither company are introducing new boxes for their Sat. Services.

Both DirecTV and Dish( and the rest of Traditional Providers) are dying a slow death, things that will hasten it are providing faster Broadband to the rural population, if StarLink works out it will be lights out for Satellite Provided Television.

1) Can you please post some information on the rule about not being able to sell both Dish and DirecTV? I can name 5 local retailers off the top of my head that sell both right now.
2) There is no evidence one way or the other DirecTV is losing NFL Sunday Ticket after this year. Stop spreading FUD
3) The Sinclair owned Fox Sports Net RSNs are not back and you know that
4) Where can I access this '5G' that Dish has a great foothold of and what device can I access it with?
2023 is when the system has to be up and running

Both offer sat. Both offer online live tv options (att has more options than dish). Both offer or will offer cell options. Att already has theirs. Dish is just starting.
Personally I don’t have a dog in this fight anymore. I got into streaming years ago, and while I have tried both companies offerings, I found them both lacking.

I just see them both dying, and they have been for a few years imo.

Yes, ATT has more streaming live tv options, but it is a confusing mess at this moment, and for the most part, not very competitive in the streaming market space.

That is true. The first one was plagued by technical issues, then the name change. The second I really never tried.

this latest one quite honestly I don’t know what to think about it. Contracts? I won’t get tied into one of those for tv again.

Yeah contracts complete with ETFs makes it a non-starter, as if the 2nd year pricing wouldn’t do that all by itself. Just not competitive.

It’s not compatible compared to other streamers for sure, but it might be to traditional sat or cable. I really haven’t ran the numbers on those for a few years, and that seems to be their target market.

But yeah that price hike, sheesh. It’s cheaper to cancel and sign up again under a different account.

1) There are retailers still doing it, but they risk being canned for it and potentially losing their residuals, My Boss (company owner) has always liked to play by the rules, so he chose to drop DTV after we received the letter from them. I could get a copy of the letter, but I don't have it with me currently.
2) With the cost of NFL Sunday Ticket, and ATnT already stating they are not fostering DTV (read the article), they will not pay for exclusive rights to Sunday Ticket when it comes up next year. The righting is on the wall, sorry if you can't see it. (No, I do not have "proof", but my (and many others) gut feeling after a long time in the industry.)

4) 5G is in it's infancy, but Dish owns a large part of the spectrum that will be and is being utilized. Dish was part of the T-Mobil/Sprint Merger, Dish is actually going to be the 4th cell phone carrier. I don't know what it will be called yet, but it was part of the entire merger negotiations. We actually have a 5G transmitter and a 5G receiver on our roof at work 30 feet away, transmitting a weather channel. It was needed to comply with the government mandate that the spectrum be utilized by Dish by 2019 or it would have gone back to the gov.

I work for a small Dish Retailer that handles some very big commercial accts, we were up for commercial retailer of the year a couple Team Summits ago. My boss (really good friend more than boss) plays cards and golfs with Charlie Ergen at the yearly Dish conference (Team Summit).

My company (Sky Systems Sky Systems - Dish TV Retailer - Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Shelton WA FWTW) has been installing Dish for nearly 25 years, and I have been with them for over 20. We care about everything going on in the satellite industry / Dish "universe" and we keep on top of it more than most.
 
DTV and Dish will always be the smaller brother to Comcast and other cable companies Faster internet speeds and now that cable companies have gotten into the home security business. They are setup longer term when people drop the TV side of things and move to streaming.

Although we sell Satellite internet, we will not sell it to anyone who can get Cable or DSL (above 3-6 Mbps). Even though we could make money doing it, it would be a disservice to our customer, it sucks and we understand that.

Regardless of size or customer base, Dish has better equipment and a lower cost. They are also well positioned to "change with the times" so to speak and stay relevant.

Heck, it’s cheaper to get it a year, cancel and pay the ETF. I had thought to do just that. Get the Entertainment level @$50, pay the ETF at the end of a year and see what has jelled by then in the streaming world. That would make the effective rate $65/month. But then I thought, why? Entertainment isn’t as broad as YouTubeTV or Hulu+Live in channel mix but it costs more no matter how you do it.

But if someone is wanting to switch to something to really save money, why would they want to consider ATT’s streaming service? It doesn’t bring anything special to the streaming table unless you buy in at the upper two levels and has a hefty premium for a service that really is not Premium in any significant way, regardless of ATT’s spouting off that it is.

Fwiw, ATT is also in the home security bus.

As for the losing Sunday Ticket, I think you who think its going away are jumping the gun a bit, maybe a lot ...
Many of you say, ya its gone ... thats EASY to say and if it happens, come with the told ya so line ....
However, chances are, D* /ATT will continue to have it available, but probably not exclusively ....
I'm thinking the NFL is going to push to the Streaming side of things with at least one streaming company and maybe with Cable as well.
But I believe that D* will still have it.
