What will happen if Dish and DirecTV merge?

Dish is pretty much abandoning RSNs...wont be too many sports fans coming

Charlie may be imagining a different DISH when all is said and done.
But I also think RSN's are going to have to imagine a different business plan. People are not going to economically recover overnight and the traditional Cable/Sat is going to have do some drastic things I think to keep customers, even if there were not stiff competition from online. Expensive RSN's may go the way of the dinosaur.

Either way DISH may transform into something more like the Flex Packs. Or could be something we have not thought of yet. I don't think it can be business as usual however there needs to be a transformation and Charlie is the person to do it if it does happen.

Sports in general is in for a huge awakening

We can all speculate like we have so many times before. I think what is inevitable is there will be one major sat provider and maybe orby can survive? The sky was falling when XM and Sirius merged and that became a huge sucessful company with far more entertainment and better equipment and better adaption to new tecnology. Turns out there was room for one sat radio provider and despite some saying it will hurt the consumer in that case just the opposite.
The quality on Sat radio has dropped big time since the merge/ accusation

You would rather have no Satellite radio then because that was the outcome with no merger. If you do some research you will see many mergers are to save jobs or an industry or for a company to live on as part of another and not close operations.
Now take in to account how many jobs were LOST due to the merger.

Can I pick 25 channels and include Football and Baseball ... (25 is a bit high actually, but it could cover those that I watch once in a while as well.)
What price point would that be ?

Glad I didn't have it before the merger, because I like it now, just fine. And via streaming, there's almost too much to listen to. If anything, I wish they would add the streaming sports channels per team to the radio sets.

I've had Sirius since Stern went over. I think it's a little better. I stream it through my Sonos system and it sounds fantastic. I listen through my Uconnect system in my van and it sounds good too.

I think it sounds better then my old Sportster unit that I had. My dad and I bought the lifetime subscriptions way back. Best investment we ever made. I haven't paid for it it over 10 years. Streaming and in our cars.

Ok now take into account all jobs were in jeopardy of being lost! :)
"The merger's completion is a relief to shareholders who have expressed frustration with the prolonged approval process. XM and Sirius have struggled financially and have said that joining forces is the only way that they can survive. Music-enabled cellphones, iPods, music Web sites and traditional radio stations all provide increased competition."

The only way to stay in business and then to compete was to merge. You see the results besides 33 Million subscribers almost doubling from the two separate combined at the time. As important technically they became able to compete, it cost money but has paid off to be on the Amazon and Google home platforms, as well as other huge app advancements, sports with no regional restrictions and so much more entertainment channels added. Costs depending on how you listen, how many radios can be lower today than a year or so ago and before. This is the essence of a good merger.

I am not hearing that. Maybe if you still listen on an older radio? Online can sound very good maybe even better than very good. I replaced an old portable radio in my car to a new one and instantly it sounded better, better stereo separation and better highs. I was not expecting that so wasn't even looking for it to sound better. And it sounds really good on my built-in radio on the other new car. And honestly in my cars, one is a convertible and the top here is virtually always down year round, it doesn't have to sound any better.

As I was/am with DISH I had XM very soon after it launched and eventually one car had Sirius all before the merger and I have had it ever since.

This pretty much sums up my experience...

I can't drive across town to work in the morning or back home 20 miles without losing signal at least 3-4 times ...
It sux ... Sirius has no answer other than to refresh your radio.

I talked to the Ford dealer and they have Nothing on file about an issue.

There is some dependence on where you live, if there are alot of trees lining the road or high mountains close to the road. Otherwise if you do not believe those are the problem it could be a bad antenna or antenna connection. I have had to replace older antennas because the sun does a number on them here. And the first sign is losing the signal with a clear shot to the sky.

I don't think it applies in your case because it is too many times. But many people report, and I experience it, there is a place with a clear line to the sky the signal is always lost for a second. Mine is where there is clear open sky, no high tension wires, no radio tower right there. Anytime I pass that exact spot the signal goes for a second. If your car is older it could be an antenna going bad if there are no obstructions. I do lose the signal in New England when there sometimes for the reasons I noted, but rarely if ever in Florida other than that one spot.

I have more details in another thread in the Sirius Xm forum.
I have a 2016 Ford F 150.
It goes out everytime I'm in a particular intersection for about 500 ft.

On the way to work, on the top of a overpass on the e way it will go out till I cross over the over pass.

The general thought I think is that its interference with traffic light / cell towers/ other various electronic in the area ...

Every once in a while when going over the same Over pass, it won't go out.

I lose it more on the app on my Truck's radio than I do on the Dash kit on my work van
