I have discovered that I am missing the antenna.

This is for a Hopper 3.

I either lost it along the way of moving it from one room to another ... or ... my son has found a way to use the antenna with his drone helicopters at school ...

Can these be purchased from DISH and/or online?

While I was transferring programs from my dying HWS to my replacement HWS (which expected you to use the antenna from the old unit), I stuck a few inches of coax into the jack with no connector on it and it worked fine as a short term solution. That way I could keep both powered up and use two remotes as I was swapping the EHD back and forth, plus I could watch one of them while I was waiting on the other one to copy programs.

You do know that you are able to keep the programs on the EHD and watch the programming directly from there? There is little need to actually transfer back to the new HWS unless you want to watch that programming via Dish Anywhere.

there are many other reasons to transfer - works better, faster, folders, etc.
Yeah, but subject to LOSS due to corruption on a small portion of the internal HDD, even if it just sits there, and it is the internal HDD that fails (multiple times) long, long before the external HDD. Now, if someone were to watch it right away after transfer, then that would be the way to do it and not risk loss. However, this is a LIMIT to the number of times you can transfer a recording between internal and external HDD's. I remember something like 3 times max. Then it stays where it si with no further transfers allowed.

One other thing would be that if one DELETES a recordging from the external HDD, it can not be restored.

to each his own - I was just pointing out that there are valid reasons
also, there are enough stories of people with problems with their EHDs - needing to reformat, can't connect, etc. to not trust them any more than the internal drive
plus dish could just as easily mess something up and corrupt your EHD at any time
again, to each his own...

I had a Silver Sensor UHF antenna that I put at the end of a short coax plugged into my 722 to good effect (through the floor) for many years. I tried to do this with the H3, but gave up after fiddling with the coax for a half hour and put the stubby plastic one back on. Is the F connector not really an F connector on the Hopper?

That F connector on the Hopper is not an F connector it is for the antenna that communicates wit the remote. You need the USB OTA dongle to get OTA on the Hopper.

With the Hoppers, they require the USB OTA module to work. You would have to connect the Hopper to the USB OTA module, then connect the USB OTA module to the antenna.

Oh boy. I was apparently ambiguous in my comment above. The Silver Sensor was not plugged into the internal OTA ATSC tuner on my 722! That was cabled into my roof antenna. I was referring to the F-connector witch comes with a stubby plastic UHF antenna for my UHF pro remotes. The bolded part of your (Bobby's) comment is what I didn't realize. It was a real F connector on the 722. I am annoyed that it's no longer an F connector on the Hopper.

It was deliberately made different from a F connector because it needs the specific antenna that is tuned for the transmit frequency used to communicate with the remote.

The Hopper remotes not only transmit to the Hopper, but they also receive from the Hopper. So, the antenna is two way rather than one way. As Kevin noted that's a special antenna on the Hopper, you can't just place any old antenna on it so they made the slightly smaller....

Ha! All I need to do is get an adapter for my Silver Sensor and I could control my Hopper from the neighbor's house! :D:D:D

It is a zigbee device I believe, which puts it into the 2.4 ghz frequency.

Both my hopper and 4K joeys work for crap compared to the VIP’s UHF remotes. I sometimes feel as if they are line of sight IR remotes more than wireless.
