I live in Canada and have Directv for 14 years
I recently installed Cinema Connection Kit for ON Demand
I have internet connection but I cannot get the channels to work
Do I need a US IP address to get this

Using DirecTV outside of the US is a violation of your end user agreement, so I doubt the Cinema Connection kit will work with a NON US IP Address.

More importantly DirecTV can "SEE" your ip address and will realize your receiver is being used outside of its service area and COULD or will terminate your service. You might be able to contract with a VPN service that could provide you with a US IP address. Which is again in violation of DirecTV's service agreement.

Your 100% correct, but I doubt Directv cares as long as you pay them every month.

They very likely just block Canadian IP addresses and that’s as far as they go.

I have a few people I know in Canada with Directv. They ask me all the time, and they want to argue with me about it.

Likely nothing will happen, but if they find out and shut your account off, don’t come crying to me to help you fix it

get a VPN that will give you a us address problem solved ;). i use expressvpn. you can switch locations of where you want your ip addy to come from as well.. as well as you can download it to your mobile devices.

I’m curious as to why anyone in Canada would want D*, are their satellite services up there not as good?

Actually the signal is just fine. Our DirecTV account is located at our main home in Minot N.D. and we have a receiver at our Canadian home in Regina S.K. and we can even get our locals with 75-83% signal strength and 88-98% signal strength on the other sats. But a VPN would be needed for on demand, although DirecTV’s on demand is not that good

Be completely anonymous on the Internet has US servers. I actually use them with DirecTV online in the US to get locals from different areas in the US. DirecTV does not have my locals online.

Yeah that could work, but isn’t that software for your computer or device?

You would have to run the software on your computer, install a second network card so the traffic from the Directv is routed through your pc.

I don’t think they sell anything to make it work on the router level

A number of vpn providers support this feature. Special Modified Routers running on something like dd-wrt or tomato . All devices connecting thru that router have a simultaneous shared VPN connection

using the SatelliteGuys app!

any dd-wrt flashed router can be configured to run a vpn from any location/server your provider offers. You can then connect your directv receiver via wifi or ethernet to that router. If the vpn drops it connection your true ip address will be visible. However if you enable a kill switch to the router software your internet will be shutoff instead.
