I have a questions for those that have gotten rid of Dish. What do you do with the satellite dish? My wife hates having it on the house but we like the service and still have nearly two years on the contract. Right now, we are happy with it. Just looking ahead in case we do get rid of it. Is it something you can take off yourself with doing damage to the roof. Thanks in advance.

You can unbolt the pole from the mount, leaving only the small piece of metal on the roof, or you can remove the whole thing and calk the holes where the bolts penetrated your roof.
Wouldn't that be the case even if you continued to have service for, say, 20 years?

OK then, caulk the holes and use it as a bird feeder, just like half the bird baths in the country.
I'm gonna do this with the OTA Antenna. I have an extra on of the ones we sell and since I don't use my Dish anymore. I just need to find a good way to attach it to the Dish and get an adapter that uses to OTA's pointing in separate directions. I wonder if 2 Diplexers would work, or maybe just 2 splitters used the way we do to relocate an antenna on a VIP Dual Tuner. Then I can point NE for the Peoria Locals and SE for the Springfield/Decatur/Champaign locals
But the dish itself is not contributing anything to the OTA signal quality, correct? It's just a stand to mount it on.

I was thinking the same thing when watching the second video linked above. He makes a point of saying that the blunt end of the antenna is supposed to be aimed toward the signals, but then he points that end away from the dish. Uh, if the dish is supposed to be reflecting the OTA signals, then shouldn't that end be pointing toward the dish? Then I realized that he is just using the dish as a mount for the antenna, and perhaps as a convenient way to rotate the antenna after loosening the bolts on the mast.
There are a couple of possible outcomes. Having the dish behind the OTA antenna could help block any interference that might be coming from that direction. On the other hand, having the dish reflecting the OTA signals could cause multi-path interference.
I'm more interested in how I can use two Antennas into one coax. I know there are adapters, but I'm curious about the splitter idea.
Huh, just read a story where a guy just used 12 ga. wire to connect both antennas together by wrapping each end at the twist connector for the Coax and that worked to combine both antennas

Well, here's what I did, I used a hacksaw to cut off the "eyes" of an EA lnbf, drilled trough the back plate and used a U-Clamp to attach a cut-off piece of a pole for pole mounts.
I tried it pointing at and away from the reflector. At picked up 2 channels and away picked up six, then I remembered something. I had to remove the Solo Hub, which I forgot about away picked up 17 channels. I didn't try pointing to towards the reflector again.
Pointing it south at Springfield, I only picked up my normal Peoria Channels. Sadly...
Pointing it North East like my other one is for Peoria, I got 100% Signal strength on every channel! That's a one big bonus. Fox was particularly weak before. Both antennas are the same, just the other one isn't on a Dish Reflector.
Bottom line is, the Reflector did not enhance range enough to pick up towers that are 50+ miles away but it did help tremendously with local towers. BTW, this is on top of my garage, so about 15' off the ground
I wonder if lowering the elevation of the dish would help. Remember, the dish is designed to aim upward into outer space. People using the hack to get a dish to increase wi-fi signal, for example, have to aim the dish so that it looks like it is pointed toward the ground, in order to get it actually aimed outward toward the signal. Of course, that would probably also mean modifying the antenna mount to raise its elevation, so that the antenna itself would not be pointed toward the ground.
As an interesting side note, I always seem to get better OTA signal strength on Sundays, especially during the fall. I just thought of that this morning while I was re-scanning my OTA locals. I can't prove it, but I suspect that OTA stations are allowed to broadcast at a slightly higher strength on Sundays, in order to ensure that as many people as possible can watch NFL games OTA. Of course, the timing could also be just a coincidence with the weather patterns and atmospheric conditions in my area. I am just relaying my experience and pointing out my observations.

Antenna must be pointed at the dish, away from the station in order to get benefit from the reflector otherwise you are asking the antenna to receive from behind which they are designed NOT to do.
Also, the dish must be pointed down more, remember these dishes use a small fraction of the porential round dish reflection unlike BUDs.
I have used my old dish 500 to focus wifi signal on a wireless usb receiver and was able to get a strong signal 75 ft from the house.
Just slipped the usb wifi receiver between the 2 lnb's.
