Having switched from a VIP211K to a Wally a few weeks ago I'm finally settling in with the differences in the UI. First, they need to rethink the DVR interface. If I want to watch something I have to select a show, then select a recording EVEN IF THERE IS ONLY ONE (Excuse the caps but it seems the Underline button has disappeared) then finally select whether to watch or delete it. Why the middle one? As annoying as that is the really annoying one is the guide issue. I created a custom guide, just like on the old 211K and that's fine but someone please explain why it reverts to All Subscribed on it's own every 3 or 4 days! And why can't I just press the Guide button to toggle between the two like the 211K could instead of having to go thru menu selections to do it? I would have thought the UI would have been an improvement instead of a step backwards. For my money the 211K had a more user friendly UI, not as pretty or fancy maybe, but better. Rant over.

Aside from your rant, you can find the underline toggle by pressing the three vertical dots. That enables a dropdown that has more selections.

For your DVR issue, just highlight the show you want to watch and hit the play button on the remote, no need to go into the middle menu.

I think it was a pretty good rant! I also find this stupid GUI much harder to navigate than the old one on my VIP receivers. I can't tell you how many things I couldn't find at all and you rescued me!

I agree that the CUI convolutes things. It was easier to navigate the old way but we have what they have given us. So, I have just learned to live with it and find my way around the hard way. The trouble is that we all use our remotes for different uses. Once I find a use that I didn’t think about I look around for where I can duplicate what was easy find the old way.

I actually like the new CUI, especially how efficient the skip ahead and back function is. I love seeing how much time it is going to advance with multiple button presses - makes commercial skipping even easier.

To bad I can't say the same for the FF and REW. That REW just zooms making it worthless!

I gotta tell you I just understand the criticism of the false notion that you needed to go down another layer to start a show. Even TiVo has the same option as Dish DVR's as to tunneling down a layer or just hit PLAY without going down the layer. I found this to be an INTUITIVE thing on both Dish and TiVo DVR's. It's as if someone has never used a DVR before :).
