Hopper 3 Audio Sync issue

This issue started about a month ago. We use the pause one tuner and swap to the other feature quite a bit. We started noticing the audio would get out of sync with the video. If you paused or clicked the back button a few times, it would fix the issue. But now it's doing it A LOT and sometimes with non-buffered material and now it's filtered over to DVR recordings. The only way to fix it is to fast forward buffered content to live and then rewind back to where you were. For the DVR, you have to stop the recording, change channels and then start playback again. For live TV, you have to change channels and then change back.

Anyone else having this issue? It's progressively getting worse. It used to happen maybe once a day, but now it's 10-15 times a day.
 
This also started happening to me about a month ago, on my ViP211k. I notice it on the local channels on Eastern Arc. (I subscribe to the Locals Only package, so I am not sure if it would also happen on other channels.) There is a slight delay of the audio. If I do not use the DVR functions to buffer Live TV, then the delay will get progressively worse the longer I watch Live. I do not think it is a problem with my TV's settings. I have had other receivers connected to that same HDMI input, and did not notice this issue. I also do not have any audio delay on my Roku, connected to the other HDMI input on this TV. The audio is already delayed, so I am not sure how adjusting an audio delay setting (if there even is such a setting) on my TV could fix the issue, since it could not possibly undo the delay, putting out audio sooner than the ViP211k is actually outputting it, could it?
 
My issue is the same in that the audio will end up a good 3-4 seconds behind the video. I've had this Hopper 3 for over a year and hadn't experienced this issue until about the last month. I'm on Software Version U942 2/5/21 12:27AM

I have a Vizio TV. No sound issues from the TV apps or when I cast from my phone.

I have not noticed this but I mostly watch on one of my J3's without explicitly swapping tuners. Do you have any J's that could be used to compare? Which channels?
 
I do have a Joey that rarely gets used. I'll have to test it, but the Joeys don't have a swap feature. I could test it by pausing something and seeing if it gets out of sync with audio also.

Interesting. My TV is also a Vizio. The other receiver I tried temporarily in the same TV input was a Joey 3, and it did not have the audio delay issue. If it was U942 that caused the issue on the Hopper 3, then that particular update did not include any new software for Joeys. The last Joey update (which is the version I had when I tested) was included in the U941 update. Of course, none of this would explain why my ViP211k would also suddenly start having this problem. So, there must be something else going on here.
 
I don't think that U942 caused the issue on my H3 because it started exhibiting the issue at least 2 weeks before U942 was installed. I'm at a loss.
 
I get this issue once in a blue moon. (Hopper 3 and joey 2s). Using big screen Vizio with Joey 2 in the basement and smaller Vizio with joey 2 in the kitchen. It mostly happens when I watch MSNBC. Slight delay with audio. (both tvs) I don't know if it matters but both tvs are connected to Vizio soundbars. I turn the Joey off then on. The problem disappears. Since it rarely happens I don't worry too much. I don't think the updates caused it. It has been happening for a long time.
 
I'm also running audio thru a Vizio sound bar using optical out from the TV to the sound bar and HDMI to the TV from the H3. Yet, using the TV as the source (TV apps or casting to the TV), I've never experienced the issue.

No sound bar here, just HDMI straight from my receiver to the TV. Yet my Vizio TV still has the issue, but only with Dish programming.
 
Is your TV also a Vizio? So far, that seems to be the common trend here.

indeed it is a vizio D32H-G9. noticed it happening while in my office working. have not noticed it yet on other tv's. not sure if its a vizio issue or dish but I updated the firmware for my tv in hopes that might help. now its just a wait and see.
 
Yep but with Vizio sound bar TV is not Vizio- Vizio sound bar SB3830- optical out - it is most noticeable on shopping channels where the person is directly looking at the camera and speaks for awhile. Not on my other TV with Samsung sound bar and not all the time or not noticeable all the time. Doesn't seem to be every channel either.
I also notice if the person talks a little faster it is more noticeable.

In the past (like years ago) switching channels for a second would fix it but this time it does not.

My wife has HSN on now (Satellite) and I can see the slight delay.

Is this on Eastern Arc or Western Arc? I had not noticed the audio delay issue at all when my ViP211k was still connected to Western Arc. Of course, it was also hooked up to a Sony TV then, not the Vizio. So, that is another variable to consider.
 
Western Arc. Been happening something like the last two Months give or take. VIP Recievers

Most of the time it is so slight you won't see it in many shows but if the camera stays on the person talking especially if straight into the camera I see it - sometimes.
 
Fixed at least for now in my case.
I decided to look into it and clearly something has changed because I had to change a setting I have not touched in years.
On my Receivers I turned off "Volume Leveling" and turned on "Line" and at it immediately made a difference.

My problem may not be exactly the same as the original post - however it started somewhere around the same time.

Thanks for the tip! I just changed my settings to match what you posted. For "Decoder" did you leave it set for Dolby Digital/PCM, or did you set it to PCM Only? For what it's worth, I had not been noticing the audio delay issue on my OTA locals, nor on HSN, before I changed these settings. On the other hand, I had just turned on my receiver right after reading your post. Like I said earlier, the problem usually got worse the longer I left it on the same channel. So, I will have to wait until one of my shows comes on the local CW affiliate, to see if I still notice the same problem where I had been seeing it the most before.
 
Uh, the endless nagging little stupid bugs that seem to pop-up and either go away or take forever or never to be fixed. My 4 PIP Bar Mode is now back to being flaky and go to re-boot, after exhibiting annoying problems.

FWIW, I remember Vizio TV's being a problem with Dish almost 20 years ago like in 2004-2005 or so. Vizio was specifically named on a Tech Forum back then as the ONE TV brand that was exhibiting a problem for some Dish subscribers.

That was back when Vizio was really a sad joke of crap brand, but today, Vizio has come a long way in vast improvement--but can still produce a few lemons as was the case a few years ago when a small group of enthusiasts--it may have included the renowned Dave Zats--on a forum all reported having to return their high-end model Vizio--with the great low price--because it would not function properly when connected to some equipment, I can't remember if it was a video or sound issue. Anyway, it was sad for the enthusiasts and sad for Vizio. As much as I would like to get a Vizio should I ever need a new TV, I just won't do it. I'll have to find another affordable brand only because of Vizio's long history of not always playing well with even BIG, reputable brands of peripherals, and yet, Vizio does offer the most for the lowest price. Maybe by the time I have to buy, they will improve even more.
