why won't Dish fix their idiotic guide issues?

I really don't want opinions added to what should be a simple one-sentence synopsis of the plot.

I've been a Dish customer since 1999, 21 years, and the awful guide infos have been a relatively recent phenomenon -- in last few years. Also, in the old days, when I would occasionally call Dish customer service I would get someone who cared -- no longer is that true.

Season 14 Episode 4, 7, and 9 of Heartland on UP channel 188 are all showing up as New. They are actually old episodes that I viewed in the spring.

I started babysitting timers after DISH disassociated themselves from the Tribune guide data. The provider that followed was reported to have accurate data at the source, but somehow after it passed through DISH, accuracy diminished. Such as event descriptions that constantly ended in ellipsis.

I've seen timers that have worked flawlessly for years, then suddenly can't find next weeks new event. I would create a new timer and that would work for a week or two, then all of a sudden the old timer starts working again and now the new one is broken. I remember one show by the end of the season had a ridiculous four timers.

Then there are these 'Ghost' events, as I call them for lack of a better word, that periodically show up in the guide. I call them that because they're an apparition of the actual event. There are an event that you would expect your existing timer would see, but it doesn't. It's isolated. And when you create a new timer so you don't miss the event, it takes an unusual amount of time for the record icon to appear in the EPG. It's like the Hopper is struggling to process the request. Happens often enough with my 11pm news, which by the way, DISH sometimes marks as not a new episode. :rolleyes Most of these 'Ghost' events eventually go poof and get corrected before the show airs. However, some don't; therefore the inconsistency has created the need to always create a new timer even though you already have a timer for the event.

As to movies; I've seen the correct title, but the wrong description. Or, correct title and description, but it's a remake from a different year. Or, correct title and description, but only b-actors are listed, none of the major stars. I've seen inaccurate, inadequate, poorly worded and descriptions that are cut off. Or, have unprintable characters (not unique to movies). And I too have seen the snarky descriptions.

The most recent irritation with the DISH EPG happened last night when the Hopper failed to record the season finale of Survivor. Earlier in the day the schedule showed the event listed, but by the time I caught the issue most of the show was over. From what I managed to get, DISH had it listed as not a new episode, no first air date and no episode number, which cause what was recorded not to sort properly with earlier recorded episodes.

It's frustrating and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the issues with the EPG are source for customer churn.
 
Actually... they are moving over to a new provider, but its being done very slowly as there are a lot of moving pieces in the background that they need to make sure works well. :)
To better provider? or cheaper one? cause that what cause mess in first place.


I was watch Quantum leap dish says there NEW episode. The show been over for how many decades now.
For most part the show I record cause there new episodes still being relase are being record but I still have to baby sit it more then I should.

Most channels have there OWN guide info on there own site which where most guide provider should be getting base info from so how dish guide provider is this bad is beyond me.

Yet the Info on character/actor playing in show have multiple paragraph for them but description to show is anything but good. or when Show season 1 of season 8 shows, show actor for season 8 which completely different from season 1.

or cast tab has cast in it , bit discriptin is also listing cast, dish guide info is is anything it is inconstant

I serisouly hope that is it changing again it actaul gona be BETTER or worse or sidegrade
 
how goes this supposed switch to new provider?, I still see 1 out 3 quantum leap episode on comet tv show "new" in the guide" which completely different thumbnail too.

And for last 3 week Cartoon network has show there "adultswim" block on saturday nights as 4hour long episode of American Dad there isnt even 4hour long episode of american dad and i know for fact adultswim own guide does not show that actual says what is playing. There is alot other timers i have that dont seem to be recording either, I back to having to babysit the damn thing again.

Also would be nice if guides say S# E# consistanly and none this episode 230 or some other stupid listing

To add to funkness of the guide.

I seen guide info for titles listed multiple way for same freaking show in same season,
Example vice "while the rest of die" I seen it listed Multiple ways
While the rest of us Die
WHILE THE REST OF US DIE

similar thing seem to happen at random on all channels, Also seem thing like show "name : extended name" and the next show of same thing just show "name" without the : "extended name"

The guide is anything but consitant in how it list thing, Forget that timers seem to randomly working again. it good thing most thing i record are actual done with there season,

For the last 2~3 years i been in habit of making SURE cartoon networks satuday night animes actual record. cause too this day there week where it wont record show
 
As a follow-up, DISH fixed this issue, but only for a couple days. Now showing guide data on 11-1 for Telemundo ... again! We don't even have a Telemundo affiliate around here!

This is really disappointing and seemingly an easy fix to us on the outside. How hard is it to get a guide right? For a service that needs to do everything possible to maintain customers the guide info should be much better. However, one just needs to look at the "reviews" tab that's been in place for how many years now with no reviews listed? It appears management doesn't give a rip about the guide.
 
Did Dish change who they get the guide from recently, like maybe today or yesterday? All the descriptions are now vague being mostly a sentence,
Yep...Vague descriptions.

My wife has had the DVR scheduled to record "This Is Us" and "New Amsterdam" since they started airing. Both didn't record, instead, she got recordings of "Green Acers" and "Hogans Heroes" although both were showing the correct scheduled DVR picture of the program ( This Is Us S6 * Ep3 NEW Recorded 1/18)!!!

She was furious especially because she is addicted to "This Is Us":mad:

Transitions to new provider are clearly happening. I was surfing a few movies last night and went to look at the actors bio on the info screen for a couple of the movies and the ones I saw were clearly from a different provider, notably because the actor bios are back to including their birthdate again, which has not been shown in the bios in a LONG time. Nice to see that back.
 
I think that the hope is that by beating on a dead horse, other horses will see it and alter their behavior. However, DISH has shown absolutely no interest in correcting the problems.

For example, one of the issues is that when a station changes it's call numbers for OTA, such as going from channel 4.1 to channel 6.3, DISH just leaves the station at channel 4 for satellite. So, when you see the OTA program guide, actual channel 6.3 has no guide data and channel 4.1 has the guide data for 6.3.

I've brought that exact problem to DISH's attention multiple times on the phone, in chat, and with the DIRT team here. I've been told every time that it would be forwarded to DISH Engineering and taken care of. Over a year later, it's still wrong.

I've found DISH to be a very responsive and helpful company in many ways. On the guide issues, it really seems that they just don't care and are content to have a small percentage of disgruntled customers. They appear to put minimum effort and expense into this part of their product.

I've called. Several times. They don't understand or they don't care. Not sure which. I refuse to call again -- it's a waste of time.

They really don't care about us "legacy" users. You know who we are, the customers that have been around since the late 90s -- paying them monthly for 23 years. The ones who once were proud to be Dish customers.
