MLB 2022 Season

Everything I’ve heard says Bogaerts wants to stay with the Red Sox, but has no problem leaving if the Sox don’t meet his demands.

As far as the Red Sox and their playoff chances this year, I stick to what I said before: they need to add a few arms to that bullpen for anyone to take them serious.
You've heard Bogaerts stays, That would be Great, however, you know how they are about coming up with long term and High Dollar contracts ....
Mookie comes to mind quickly .

IF Xander stays, wonder how that effects Trevor Story ?
I think he would be fine staying at 2b ..... for how long, I don't know.
They are better with both of them than not.

I’ve also heard that X has no problem moving positions. And even if he doesn’t move, Story has settled in very nicely at second. All that said, this is my wish list for the off-season: BOTH X and Devers sign multi year deals. They move Story back to SS, move X back to 3B (where he played as a rookie when the Sox still had Stephen Drew at SS), move Devers to either 1B or he becomes the full time DH. I’m fine with Arroyo at 2B and them moving on from JD Martinez.

I like this idea some .... X move and Story move, however, I doubt that they will go with Devers to 1b, at least for the long haul as I think they really want Tristin (sp) at 1b once they bring him up.

I find it odd that they haven't had him up yet, seeing how high they are on him.

Maybe you've heard otherwise ...

You are totally correct, and I agree that Devers to 1B is not a long term answer. I do think the Sox fancy Devers as their full time DH down the line. I love JD Martinez and everything he has brought to the Red Sox the last 5 years. I always said that JD and Mookie Betts should have been co-AL MVP’s in 2018 when the Sox won it all. He was that good and that clutch. But Devers is a transcendent hitter and is only 25 years old.

Despite the 12 game losing streak, the Joe Maddon firing shocks me!! Up until 2 weeks ago the Angels were playing very good ball. I have to feel there’s more to this firing than the losing streak. That’s 2 World Series winning managers to be axed within a week. Wonder if that’s ever happened before.

I thought all along the the Angels were outplaying their roster. But, I didn’t think the reality check would come this soon….

I agree and that’s why I’m surprised. I will admit I’ve never been a fan of Maddon, but I can’t deny his success as a ML manager. In a vacuum a 12 game losing streak can get most run of the mill managers fired, but not someone with Maddon’s resume. That’s why I think there’s more to this firing.

Hopefully Phil Nevin will get an actual chance ....
He's a good guy, managed here in Toledo in AAA for awhile.
Team played real well back then ... unfortunately, they didn't when they got to Detroit.

I can’t speak to how the Tigers handle their affiliates, but I used to go to many AAA games when the Red Sox affiliate played in Pawtucket, RI. Generally speaking the AAA squad was made up of AAAA journeymen types and ML players coming back from injuries…kind of a glorified taxi squad. The Red Sox “real” blue chip prospects were usually in AA.

Thats the way it is in AAA if the Parent Club is a GOOD one.
If the Parent club isn't any good, its a free for all, they will pull up most anybody ....

Awhile back, the AAA team was Very good, in the playoffs and the Parent club pulled the Top pitcher up to the big club, instead of waiting a few weeks and seeing how the AAA club did in the playoffs ... it wasn't always pitchers, but Detroit had a Slew of them in thier drafts for awhile.

For awhile, the Tigers Never took a position player, it was Always a Power pitcher.
A few made it, most didn't.

The Tigers were a pitching factory for a while. Starting with Jeremy Bonderman, Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer

Yup, theres a few very good ones in that group !
JV just past Scherzer tonight for most K's career, 3080 or there about ... I'm sure those two will be going back and forth for awhile, moving up the list along the way.
JV has 12 K's tonight.

Amazing to think at one time the Tigers had Verlander, Scherzer and Price on one staff.
And Lost in the first round of the playoff iirc.

I can’t believe I left out Rick Porcello who had a couple of great years for the Red Sox including 22-4 and the Cy Young Award in 2016 and 17-7 and a big part of a World Championship in 2018. AND he was as big a Yankee killer pitcher that ever put on a Red Sox uniform, which endeared him eternally to Red Sox fans!

And yes, the Tigers had some incredible starting rotations. How about 2013? Verlander, Scherzer, Price, former Red Sox prospect Anibal Sanchez, Porcello and Doug Fister. A buddy of mine and myself were talking about that a couple of years ago, and saying how did the Tigers not win a World Series with that rotation?

I too forgot about Porcello ....
He came up with the Tigers at the same time most of them were together, therefore he didn't have the same pressure being on him.
I also liked Anibel very well.

Tigers should have been much better.

The Red Sox cannot wait until the trade deadline to address their bullpen woes. They have a killer schedule coming up from June 24 all the way through August 3. If they wait until the trade deadline to address their sieve of a bullpen, they could be way out of even the 3rd wildcard. If they want to wait until then to add another bat (RF or 1B) then fine, but the bullpen needs to be addressed yesterday!!

Unfortunately, If they Do wait .... they will be far enough behind that they will Sell instead of Buy .....
