2022-23 MLB Hot Stove Discussion

That mean the Astros will be in a battle to keep Verlander ...
Now with DeGrom out of NY, I expect the Mets to go all in on JV, unless JV decides he's not needing that 3rd year ... Astros only offering 2 yrs at the moment ... they have plenty of Pitching with or with out JV, but I'd like to see the Stros step up and offer 3 years and see if he stays.
Why break up a good thing ?

They knew all along that he wants to play till hes 45, thats 3 years ... so they offer 2 .... wth.

Jimbo, how close were Verlander and Scherzer from their Tiger days together? The reason I ask is this, is it possible that Scherzer tries to recruit JV to the Mets now that deGrom is gone?

Sounds like Houston and Verlander are far apart on a deal.
They've said that for awhile now, so nothing has changed yet.
I'm thinking That will change once teams start to get serious.

Mets and the Dodgers are the likely destination for JV If he leaves Houston ...
I was thinking the Mets earlier, but, he does have a home in LA area, so there is that.

Rick Porcello announced his retirement today. In his 5 seasons with the Red Sox he was the extreme definition of up and down.

2015: 5-11
2016: 22-4, AL Cy Young Award winner and AL Comeback Player of the Year
2017: 11-17
2018: 17-7, helped the Red Sox to a franchise record 108 regular season wins, Pitched one of the most dominant games I’ve ever seen in person against the Yankees in July (complete game one hitter on 86 pitches). Was lights out in the postseason against the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers to help the Red Sox win the World Series
2019: 14-12, 5.52 ERA

As you can see it wasn’t always great, but Porcello was a workhorse that generally took the ball every 5th day and was generally a big game pitcher. His 2016 and 2018 seasons will always be fondly remembered by Red Sox fans. Enjoy your retirement Rick!!

Judge goes to either the Yankees or Giants.

These are the two teams I thought it might come down to, with the Dodgers having an outside chance. I still think he’s going back to the Yankees though.
