So my grandpa just cancelled dish after being a customer since 11/2023 and they didint want the joey 2s or hopper 2000 back and I want to use it at my house (which has no sat) but my friend tried it and he was not able to get them to play without sat signal because there was no guide data. (Long story short is there a way to get the receiver to download guide data over internet and not sat? My reason for this is because grandpa has no internet but I have internet at my house)

Satellite is the only way to download guide data.

Speaking of newly offered streaming channels, I have 2 questions...
As Boston says you must have an active subscription to download guide to see those channels and what they offer.

1- Are we able to select them in Guide and record them as we do with regular satellite and OTA channels? After recording how long do we have before they expire? (Long time ago I recorded a free on demand movie that needed to be viewed before it expired.)
2- Does the Guide give enough information to make the recording decision?

If all you want is the freeview channels, just get a Roku, download Pluto TV/Tubi/Roku Channels, it is the same content, but with the 3 I posted, you will receive a lot more channels, all with a guide.
