Hi all,

If you don't already know me, I'm Brittany, the Manager of Technical Operations at DISH. My team manages the customer and product experience portion of our beta and production software releases. We've received an overwhelming amount of feedback regarding external hard drives, so we wanted a place to condense these for our engineering teams.

Please keep this thread focused solely on external hard drive issues and ensure that you answer all of the questions listed below:
1. What is the model of your Hopper? (Hopper 3, Hopper 3 with H+, Hopper 2, etc)
2. What software is your Hopper currently on?
3. What is the model and size of your EHD? (If more than 1 in use, please list all)
4. How many EHDs do you have plugged in simultaneously?
5. What is the EHD related issue you are experiencing? Please provide as much detail as possible.

3. Western Digital 3TB
4. Just one
5. It disappeared sometime between April 28 and May 5

2. 392 (prob existed back to 389 & sooner.
3. All of them, but for example: WD Elements WDBU6Y0020BBK 2TB
4. Only 1 at a time, and only when trying to use it.
5. Can see recordings list but cannot transfer. Transfer button shows active but nothing happens when selected. Happens when plugged in directly or via hub.

And we have previously exchanged msgs about other EHDs no longer being read by H3.

4. Running simultaneously….. additionally, it is my understanding that the hopper cannot handle more than 6 TB of data at the same time.

The EHD plays data back just fine. However, once the data is on the EHD, it cannot be transferred back to the hopper. When selecting the options and manage recordings all of the data disappears. I believe this started happening about a month and a half ago. I don't remember the software version, but I believe it was prior to H389 that this was still working.

Both are plugged into the H3

Can't transfer recordings from either EHD back to the H3.
Not sure when it started, I saw posts on this forum and checked.
Everything else works fine.

This is fixed in the software we are rolling out tonight. It will be a slow rollout, but you should be good to go by the end of the month

A little long-winded, sorry, but I wanted to give the best possible picture.

* Hopper 3 (one of the original ones released, and yes, still going strong)
* V392. (started at 390 or a little before)
* 1 6TB Surveillance drive
* 3 1TB WD My Book drives
* 1 2TB WD My Book

Because of the 7TB max limit (not six, but seven), only one of the 1 TBs is active while the 6TB is switched in. One 1TB and the 6TB work (worked)
perfectly.
Usually, two are plugged in simultaneously (the 6TB and one of the 1TB). If the 6 TB is not online, you can use any combination of the smaller drives (up to three), and the rest do not add up to 7 TB. So, it worked great with three EHDs all on a hub.

Issues:
I purchased a 3TB drive (put in an enclosure; I tried multiple enclosures, by the way) to expand one of the full 1TB drives. I know that once I do this, I can't use the 6 TB drive.

Once I plug in the 3TB drive, it goes through formatting, but when I try to transfer to it, it only shows that 1TB is available (not three). I pulled the drive out of the enclosure, and yes, it was stickered 3 TB. I re-formatted the drive in Windows, and it came back as a 3TB drive. I put it back in the Hopper, and after the format, it again shows that only 1TB is available.

Also, anything I transfer to the mis-formatted 3TB (1 TB shown drive), anything on it cannot be played. As reported by others, I can't transfer them back to the hopper to continue troubleshooting without losing the recorded data initially transferred.
I hope this is enough. I'm glad to talk to whoever or give external access so you can check it out directly.
