EchoStar / Dish’s Path Forward

Id'e like to know what the difference is between using the auto hop or just holding the FF button down 🤔 🤔 🤔??? There still losing ad revenue either way!!!!
The difference is who controls the action. Since Dish controls AutoHop, the providers can make it a contract issue. On the other hand, the FF button is ubiquitous, and controlled only by you, making it difficult or impossible for the providers to exercise any control over its use.

In order for AutoHop to work all the stations need to be on the same transponder. The Hopper actually records the entire transponder to capture all 4 networks for your area.

And it use to be the commercial skipping times were programmed by hand, not automated so someone had to watch and record the times of the commercials so the auto hop knew when to skip the commercials. I don't know if it is still done that way. Its got to be hard now as some stations have in their contract that Autohop is delayed for x number of days after a show airs, while others get it the next day.

It would be hard to do this for other channels.

On CBS and Fox the Autohop marker is present the next day even though Autohop is delayed per the contract. But the nice thing is that you can quickly push the skip ahead button on the remote 4 times it will find the start of the program segment.
