I don't know why PIP doesn't work on my new Joey 4?

I was hoping to have PIP.

When I try to do PIP a message says this is not an active feature.

The Joey 4 does everything I have read on here that it is supposed to do except PIP.

What could be wrong?

Very frustrating because PIP was the reason I got the Joey 4.

The Joey 4 is connected to is older TV that does 4K, but not HDR.

With regards to PIP the Joey 4 acts like the 4K Joey it is replacing.

Could my Hoppers 3s think my new Joey 4 is a 4K Joey since that is what was used previously with my Hopper 3s?

Does it matter how my two Hopper 3s are wired up?

Not like some diagrams that I have seen online, the Dish installers may have used a Solo Hub and not Duo Hub to wire up my two Hopper 3s with the DPH 43 but I'm not sure about this?

I am very disappointed.

PIP has been enabled for the Android Joey 4s for a few months now. If your Joey 4 was recently installed it should get an update shortly which enables it.

Many thanks for this information Scott ! !

Good to know.

I am happy now.

PIP was the main reason that I upgraded to Android Joey 4 from the 4K Joey, besides liking to test stuff out.

I am very unknowledgable.

I thought that I had made a mistake.

Now I can sleep tonight.

Much appreciated.

Scott...
Not sure I have all of the details, but with software version 703, there have been some reports on those threads mentioning that some of the Joey software versions have not been showing up or updating. I wonder if the OP's PIP issue could possibly be related to that?

Software version 703 on my Hopper 3s.

I have been feeling a frustrated about this issue.

I'm hopeful with Scott's post that my Android Joey 4 will eventually get PIP working.

When my Android Joey 4 was installed two weeks ago my Hopper 3s were running the latest software possibly 703.

In your Hopper 3 Diagnostics screen, for Available Joey Software, what is the version?

My Available Joey Software Version is W152 W208 J703 K103 J903

I don't know the significance of the Available Joey Software Version.

I think I may have multiple problems.

The new Android Joey 4 isn't even listed on the whole home screen on either of my Hopper 3s.

I haven't messed with anything since the install two weeks ago.

My Hopper3s probably had 703 before Android Joey 4 installation due to having been recently updated.

I saw some message on the Andoid Joey 4 screen when I was looking to update that said taget not available whatever that was about.

I let my eqipement be remotely accessed Saturday night after I consented.

The off shore Dish representative that remotely accessed must have reset one of the Hopper 3s.

The representative sounded like she was 15.

The new Android Joey 4 not even being listed on the Hopper 3s seems wrong.

The Android Joey 4 currently still works except for PIP.

Dish could have pulled the feature.

A lot going on but I don't know what is wrong.

Could my Hoppers 3s think my new Joey 4 is a 4K Joey since that is what was used previously with my Hopper 3s? no worries your hopper 3 knows what's connected to it :) you just might have to wait for the software update to come through!!!

In both your Hopper 3s, in the Recordings folder and in the drop down "Other Devices" menu, do both H3s see each other? In your Joey 4 Whole Home section, does it show a linked H3? Does it list both H3s?

Yes, but only showing the 4K Joey and not the Android Joey 4 in whole home

Not trying to distract but thanks for trying to help. I am scared to call Dish after what happened with the Dish technical support rep over the phone resetting one of my Hopper3s to factory settings. I lost all my recordings on that Hopper 3.

My wired Joey 4 definitely hasn't updated.

The wired Joey 4 says the software version is S52700 3/14/2024, 9:25.

I wish there was a way to update it.

The Dish installer said there was not a way to directly update from the wired Joey 4.

The Dish installer said that updates happened through the Hopper 3.

Lack of update on my wired Joey 4 is probably the reason for no PIP.

Thank you for explaining this.

All of my equipment is shown in whole home on both Hopper 3s but the wired Joey 4 is linked to one specific Hopper 3 for OTA.

The wired Joey 4 was linked to that specific Hopper 3 for access to it's OTA.

Also thanks. Saying my 4K Joey wasn't the problem is good because the 4K Joey looks great connected to my old Pioneer plasma.

Try the Google setting again. Use Joey 4 remote. Tap home button one time. Select settings wheel at the top. Click on Device Preferences and then select About.

Guess what I was mistaken.

In whole home screen only specific Joeys are listed as linked but all equipment is shown.

In the recordings folders in the drop down I am able to access both Hopper 3s.

The wired Joey 4 is linked to one specific Hopper 3 for OTA purposes and not the other though shown on both.

Same for the old 4K Joey linked only to the other Hopper 3 for OTA purposes but shown on both.

All equipment is shown in whole home.

Everything including my wired Joey 4 works fine except for PIP on the wired Joey.

I have no idea how this is all supposed to be but the tech that installed this seemed to be, no exageration, an extremely smart young guy.

The software version on my new wired Joey 4 is S52700 3/14/2024.

The software on my new wired Joey 4 needs updating and then maybe it will do PIP.

Hopefully an update on my new wired Joey 4 will happen automatically since I was told by the tech that it cannot occur manually.

In light of this corrected information do you think that I still need a tech visit?

I don't want a tech visit unless necessary because my last tech visit lasted 6 hours and included the district supervisor and install manager.

Scott seemed to suggest patience for my PIP to start working.

The people I get at Dish seem to be unaware about PIP on the wired Joey 4.

Thank you for your help!

Failed: NoTgt

Installer knew updating that way wasn't working.

Maybe Dish doesn't want this feature to go out anymore and is preventing an update?

I don't know.

I've never had a wired Joey 4 before.

I wish it would update.

I would. In the mean time have you done a pull the cord reset for the Hoppers and Joey 4? How about linking the Joey 4 to the other Hopper?

I can do resets.

Resetting could possibly always help.

Someone said maybe a problem with updates is because of Hopper 3 software version 703.

I installed Hopper software version 703 on my Hopper 3s December 19th before this wired Joey 4 was installed.

The installer did some resets.

The installer said updates to the Android Joey 3 only happen through the Hopper 3 and cannot be done through the Google menu.

I am not sure about linking the Android Joey 4 to both Hoppers since I want it to access only one specific Hopper 3 for it's OTA tuners.

I couldn't get my locals on the right arc because of trees.

My dish is pointed at a different arc.

Hopefully I'll get PIP!

I would link the Joey 4 to other Hopper 3 anyway just to check the PIP feature. Maybe when you want to watch OTA use the drop down menu and watch the other Hopper 3 with the OTA connected. I would test that but I have my OTA connected to both my Hopper 3s.

And yes DISH is slow when rolling out updates

Give it time ours took a while to get the update!!! Have you tried the options button on the remote as well it shows up on ours as no 4 pip and there's a button to enable it...

Hopper 3 Software updated to H703

EchoStar 25 @110W March 2026.
