Check Back Later Streaming Error

Recently I've noticed in the EPG every streaming channel shows, "Check Back Later". A search here and through Google didn't turn up much information about this error. Checked the Network Details/Wireless panel and the parts of the panel that are suppose to be green are green, and the RX and TX packets are increasing. This suggests network activity in both directions are functioning properly. Anyone know what might be going on, and what can be done to fix the issue?

The streaming channels are all working on my Hopper3 receivers. Perhaps your network connection speed is too slow.

To test your network connection speed do the following on a Hopper3:
1) Go to the Dish Diagnostics page by hitting the Home key 3 times.
2) Select Status on the side menu.
3) Select Send Status by pressing 7.
4) Select Test Connections
5) It will show you phone connection and the download speed.
My download speed is 301 Mbps.

DISH could have labeled the button something better. I stayed away from that button because I thought after you did the Status check, that button sent the results, but I digress.

Performed the suggested test and the download speed on that Hopper with Sling is about 40 Mbps. Not great, but it should be enough for 1080 resolution. A couple of months ago I was seeing more than normal amount of WLAN access requests from that Hopper in the router log, especially early in the morning. Since that Hopper is the farthest from the router, I moved it off the 5 GHz band and placed it on the 2.4 GHz band for better signal penetration through the walls. The number of requests went back to normal. Maybe it was the band shift, or maybe it was new firmware.

While the router is old, the download speed now is the same download speed when streaming worked properly. As I mentioned, everything that's suppose to be green in the Wireless panel is green. While I'm not ruling out replacing the router, according to DISH the network speed is not deficient.

Thanks.

I have this problem occasionally. I go into the menu options and select the update guide option. This makes the check back later disappear and regular guide listings appear. The streaming channels work fine after that (until the next time it happens) You have to wait on the box to appear on the screen and get to 100%

Food for thought, my H3 is 2 feet from router, granted there closet wall between it but my H3 barely get 100mbit, some time I do test when steaming channels are constantly buffering and or stalling and that test will come back saying some stupid number like .0800 mbit either way lower then 1mbit. when this happens No amount of Router reboots or H3 reboots will fix this issue. I seriously think there issue with wifi on h3 or some how there stream channels are have "bandwidth" issues on there end which make it look like issue is on our end. Which I not really show how that would even work.

I once did test few months back, the dish "fast" channels which are really just SlingTV free channels redirect/feed into dish. Channel example on dish (h3) Classic Doctor who (channel) when it was constantly buffering and stalling and show bellow 1mbit speeds. I could go watch that same exact channel via sling tv, either web/app on muitple devices using same router and wifi and steam feed was perfectly fine. I then test same thing with 2nd h3 I have both h3 had the same issue.

So either problem is with h3 and it wifi software/firmware or Dish "stream" channels are some getting knee capped upstream someplace. It use to happen often (weekly) it been months since this happen though. maybe the issue or my issue was fixed with update?

My router and wifi has not changed it has not had updates either, and I am on 1000/1000 connection

Check back later is usual resolved by guide update I also notice the stream channels depend on channel tend to only be 2 days worth

I think the best solution is to use an ethernet cable from your router. My buddy tried to use wifi and found problems just like you are describing. I told him about an ethernet switch and run an ethernet cable from his router to the switch so he could split it into 2 cables to go to his hopper and the other one to his TV and he gets 85 mpbs on both connections. He stopped having problems with buffering and with the plus unit losing connection to the hopper. So it solved both his issues splitting one cable into two connections. The switch has 3 more slots if he wants to plug other things into it and get internet.

I agree. My router is in my office and my Hopper3 is in my home theater. There is a common wall between them. I have an ethernet switch in each room attached to each other. I have a passthrough between the rooms. I have no issue with my Hopper's performance.

Sadly putting a hole threw wall is not option. other wise I would done so by now, for now the issue seem to in hibernation hopeful it stays there

There used to be something that sent ethernet over a power outlet..no idea how fast it is
I have a few of those, I've used them occasionally and they have worked ok ....
That said, last week I ran an ethernet line from router to 5 port Switch to TV and various other items.
I remember why I don't like Attic work (also ran Coax for antenna thru Crawl for neighbor)
I remember why I retired !

We have a power plug like that in the office that gives my boys room ethernet connection over the power plug in his room. It works but he likes the wifi speeds better. He uses the ethernet for his older computer he uses for something, he told me I can't remember. He uses the new computer using the wifi speeds.

I mean I can't recall what crap he uses his old computer for. Not that I can't remember because I have dementia like Trump. My kid rattles on about computer related stuff so much since he went to school for it and works for Jefferson County doing I.T. stuff for them now. I kind of glaze over when he starts talking. Same with my wife when she starts talking about food and what do you want me to make. Selective hearing I guess. :biggrin

Speeds may or may not be the factor as speed is the transmission rate and also the latency rate. The other issue might be elsewhere as the routing between the source and you is different for outgoing and incoming which is something you cannot see as it involves the forward and reverse traceroutes. When transmission is received, a acknowledgement is sent back confirming it is received and if there is any delay for the ACKs or the received data, it can cause issues. The WiFi or ethernet connection is only one of the variables.

When I've had the time I've been going through the daunting task of finding a suitable replacement router. About a week ago all of the titles for the streamers in the EPG when from "Check Back Later" to their actual titles. However any streaming event in the EPG that was selected resulted in an endless connecting glyph. Yesterday I tried it again and now they all work. I've changed nothing here. Perhaps DISH changed something?. If not DISH should, it's such a cryptic error, especially since their own software is indicating it's not a network issue. Until it reoccurs, thanks to those that replied.

I've had the same problem for a few days now. The test shows 300Mb and I can see the box happily sending tons of analytics data back to HQ. I did the update guide thing but no cigar. Any other ideas?
