I am about to buy a Harmony Remote... Ive read the threads and think I am set on the 880... I see the 890, but it appears the only difference is the color and that it has RF (which wont work with our 622's - is that correct?)

The 880 works just fine for a 622.

Plan on doing some customizing for it though. I spent several days getting things set up like i wanted.

thanks! Ordered the 880... picking up at Best Buy tonite.. using my Best Buy Bucks only paid $15.23 Whoohooo

My 880 works just fine with my ViP622, JVC DiLA, DVD changer, VCR etc. I made very few additions to what the system basically set it up for. Mostly, I defined the bottom right key to initiate SEARCH.

I went thru several remotes, wasted a lot of money on cheap ones. Then the 880 turned out to be everything they said it was. Very good.

My 520 works perfect too. And I got it for $60 off www.ecost.com or you can get it for $100 in Target / Walmart / Home Depot. Harmony remotes are awesome, 4 of my friends have got them thru recommendations from me.

wow, this thing is nifty...

For those of you who've used it for a while, any recommendations on the DVR buttons and other 622 related stuff to make it easier?

I added the PIP and PIP swap as well as Live Tv and System Menu to the LCD buttons.

I use the top row of regular buttons left to right
PVR, Cancel, EPG, INFO
the next row as dvr buttons, middle 2 jump back and forward

I'll just throw another thumbs up to the 880. It has been heaven in replacing the coffee table-full of remotes I had with no lost functions. :up

I'm actually thinking of getting my brother one for Christmas just to keep from fiddling with his stack of remotes when I go over to his house! hehe

The DVR function appears in the screen. Top left, IIRC. But I defined the bottom left button to do the same thing, the bottom right to search. In ViP622 mode, the top 2 middle buttons of the two rows of buttons, the sorta "" buttons, do the skip fwd & skip back functions. I think it was automatically programmed that way, but maybe it was something I put in.

I added "Page Up" & "Page Down" on the first page of the LCS screen... helps in navigating the Guide. Also added "DVR", "Live", "PIP" & "Swap"

I've got two (2) 880's, one controlling my 622 in the family room and one controlling the 811 in the bedroom. I think the 890 will work with the 622 for the 2nd TV if you setup your 622 for that. I've got my 622 feeding the computer room and I just use the remote that came with the 622 to control the 622. I don't need all of the extra functionality in the computer room to warrant the cost of the 890 (about $389).

Configuring them is easy. You setup an account at the Harmony (Logitech) site and build your setup (you need an account for each remote) then download it to the 622. It keeps a copy of your configuration online so if you need to make adjustments, you just login, make your changes, and then download the new configuration.

My family room unit controls my Sony, the 622, the DVD player, and the stereo receiver, the one in the bedroom controls my 32” HD LCD flat screen (Vizio), the 811, and a Sony DVD player. Nice thing is when you go to set them up, every possible piece of equipment is in their database and they have all of the codes for them already. If you do run into something that isn’t in the database, it has a learning function. The online setup process will help you setup items not in the database.

By the way, I picked my 880's up on Ebay and they each cost me about $100 (new).

Does anyone know if the 880 will control an Apex flat panel? I have not found any remote that will control it and the 211.

If the 880 (or any Harmony for that matter) won't control it then there isn't a remote in existence that will. I have the 659 and was even able to get my one oddball component to work perfectly with it, that oddball component being a 3 CD Changer/MiniDisc deck that isn't something that you see often in a home theater setup. It should work just fine. If you want you can create an account on the Logitech website and see if your Apex model TV is one of the supported out of the box TVs. Even if its not available in their database (unlikely if you ask me) you can still add its functionality via the learning function of the remote.
