Uplink Activity Report - 01/24/2007 - 274 changes

And I thought I kept up!!!!!

I have been trying to keep up with resolution ever since I joined the site when I first got dish! I have been afraid that they would compromise too much.

I read the site everyday and still missed that! I have a hard time with BFG's chart because it doesn't list the individual resolutions. I certainly don't have any software to check the resolution numbers or anything like that.

So is all 1920 x 1080i now broadcast in 1440 x 1080i on Dish?

And 1280 x 720p is broadcast in native resolution?

General, where have you been?

They have been at 1440 x 1080 since they have been on Dish.

Actually FoodHD and HGTV HD were 1920x1080i when the first came to E* in MPEG2 mode I believe.

But it's a known fact that the MPEG4 encoders are not giving good results for 1920x1080i. I don't see too many complaints from the other thread, everyone is saying the channels look good. Bring on the HD E*!

Yes I an actually smiling tonight at this change.

Imagine a station that yesterday was using 13mb/s that today is only using 6 mb/s and people (even some very picky folks) saying the PQ looks better today.

If they only knew. :D

A tip of the hat to the engineering guys at Echostar and of course a double tip of the hat to the guys at the uplink. :)

It really is amazing. You know the uplink guys are getting excited about these two threads.

Maybe now we can all get geared up for some actual HD additions!

If this is successful, then the future looks much brighter for more HD programming. HD DVD and Blu Ray will still be the better PQ (much like the difference between regular tv and dvds), but at least they are making improvements in technology, and we all win in that situation.

I've always wondered if they come browsing by to check out their work on the uplink reports ;)
Yes they do, I can monitor whos looking at what, and they are definately looking.

I think they are having a field day with my poll.

Almost reminds me of the time I went to a party at a college and most everyone was drunk, they didn't tell folks until after the party that the beer they were serving was non alcoholic brew. :)

At least what they are serving us now is almost real HD. And I got to be honest I have no problem with 1440 x 1080i resolution since the majority of HD sets dont display even that resolution. (Yes some do more I understand that) :) While I would love 1920 x 1080 I do realize that most people would not notice the difference because they set can't display it fully)

Hard to say on quality... I think I'm used to how it all looks. I still welcome more HD and I am fine with 1440x1080i and full 720p. I'm sure they have a strategy to keep up with D* while they continue to steadily add to their satellite fleet / capacity. Now if we could just keep Charlie out of the courts for a little while so they don't have to tie up engineers working on last minute *compliance* fixes and keep them working on productive ways to continue to deliver better PQ than D*.

Kudos engineers, keep up the good work.

Awesome. They ought to feel honored that I sat here and developed 1400+ lines of code for an application to reverse engineering all of their work they do on the NIT & EIT tables.

I can see the uplink supervisor now with his checklist... reading JohnH's and our uplink reports checking off each of his changes to make sure his employees did everything correctly.

Odouls!!! ;)

People loved the VOOM service and they ran 1440X1080i.

EDIT: To everyone that sent me PM's, please resend them. My mailbox was full.

Is anyone getting the epg guide info for their subchannels? Some of my locals were listed last week, but have not seen any change. (btw, I have an 811)

I think they removed support for this on the 811 with the last software update. After mine was updated the secondary channel info went away. When they rolled out the last batch of channels many 811 owners were complaining about the long guide download times.
