Does anyone know if there are plans for Dish to offer the Setanta package in the future?

your guess is probably as good as anybody's ...

There is a semi discussion here - as well as other threads on this subject.

I think the official word is that they are "in discussions" and have been for the past 12 months .. but we probably won't know if the channel is going to appear until the day it pops up in the guide ...

Setanta encourage you to call or email dish to let then know that you want it ... the more people that call and email .. the more reason they will have to add it.

:)

(I did ask if anyone knew who was the best person to contact about getting new channels added .. but it did not get a reply last time i asked .. is there a programming department that we should be directing our emails to?)

This channel is turning into the new "YES" channel thread wise.
This is because Setanta has purchased the US rights to a good portion of the soccer programming. Setanta is the "Sunday Ticket" or "Extra Innings" of soccer, since it has a lot of the matches of teams that are not your local team (the local US teams, i.e. MLS, are on ESPN, FSC, Telefutura and the RSNs).

There is a good likelihood that Dish will have Setanta by August 1st, simiply because there is a demand, and they have added similar a la carte premium foreign channels on a regular basis. Also, some of the programmers whose sports are shown on Setanta have started lobbying Dish as well. And only one SD transponder channel is required.

As of today Dish Network does not carry Setanta. Any statements about what the future holds are pure speculation.

General rule: select a provider (cable, DBS, other) based on what they offer now, not on promises or rumors on what they will offer in the future.

And another thread about this pops up every couple months for the last year or two.
There is a likelyhood that direct will turn on those 100+ HD channels by August 1 too, but doesn't mean it's going to happen!

The problem with that is that the European soccer season ends in a few days, and if Dish adds Setanta, it will likely be by August 1st, in time for the next season.
So, there is no "now" in this case...

In the soccer forums, they always say about transfer reports " I'll believe it when I see him wearing our team's shirt. "

And that's a sensible attitude.

I think the equivalent in this case would be to see it listed as "Available" in the Uplink Reports. Up until that point, you never know whether they might hit some last-minute snag.

Hopefully, we will at least see something likely in the Uplink Report as "Not Available" (a "SETA" or "STNT" or ?) in the next week or two...

I think he was referring to using the words "Dish", "negotiations", and "positive news". I'm glad that you have heard of progress in these negotiations, but I'll believe it when the channel is uplinked and available to customers. (Note that YES was uplinked several times, and then taken back down, so an uplink is no guarantee that subs will see than channel.)

That's pretty silly, there are dozens of cases where Dish was in negoatiations and then had positive news and added the channel.

The most relevant example is Fox Soccer Channel , which at the time was called Fox Sports World, and had been on DirecTV for a year, with the same people now asking for Setanta, anxiously waiting for it to be added - and negotiations came to a positive outcome and it was added.

Yes channel is the subject of a fundamental difference in outlook between E* and the channel, and neither are budging.

In contrast, Setanta and Dish have no fundamental disagreements.

At this point, my impression is that it is just a matter of small details - how many invitations you get to send to your relatives, and how many do I get. But until the formal announcement, you never know if Dustin Hoffman is going to arrive on a white horse...

Which words specifically ?

Frankly, I don't know what you are talking about.

I was referring to the words "Dish" and "very soon." When these words are used by themselves they are completely harmless but when used together they have the ability to make time stand still.

Isnt ESPN looking to buy Setenta? I think I have heard that rumor somewhere.

Setanta has a number of different channels:
- Setanta Sports USA is the one that looks to be on Dish soon
- Setanta Premium is a satellite channel showing events for commercial establishments in the USA

But they are actually an Irish company, and the channel that ESPN was interested in was Setanta's channel in Europe that provides North American sporting events - the opposite of Setanta Sports USA.

Yup, I heard the same thing has kstuart ESPN wants the Euro verison.

My favorite is ESPN Star from Malaysia on the weekends via IPTV P2P streaming 1.5mbs plenty of EPL action.

I guess your sources were right. I'm happy for the people that want Setanta Sports. I have a buddy of mine that wanted Setanta but didn't want to switch to Directv.
