okay, i got a reply from paula korn, communications director at sea launch. her brief statement:

``we are planning to launch echostar 11 sometime in 2008.''

wish, i had something more substantial to pass along. hope this helps!

"Charlie Lied to Us", the next generation.

Guys, don't count on anything until it happens.

Dont worry, I dont get to mad when plans dont work out. Look at Fox and their total of BR releases.

I just put a little more stock in it than normal since it was announced.

At least we are getting ext hdd storage this year, maybe ;)

I wont accuse Charlie of lying, because things change daily in business.

Well ,One of the main reasons I signed up for E* was because of this information I heard about a month ago. . Well I'm not to worried because if dish keeps adding HD ,a little here a little there,I'll be fine with that until a launch.

obviously, i'm not a dish subscriber. but the way i recall the chain of events was charlie's announcement was after directv had plans to launch their 2 birds this year. what happened with sea launch earlier this year was unfortunate. but it did put both satco's behind schedule.

i seem to recall directv11 was suppose to launch in august/september. back in may, they were saying it had been pushed back to first half of 2008. now, that sea launch has received approval to begin sending birds up again, the dtv launch is now tentative for late december/early january.

if sea launch gets this bird up successfully in late october, i would presume that e 11 would go up in early 2008.

Satellites are "bent pipes." They are not inherently MPEG-2 or MPEG-4. They just shoot back what is sent to them.

2008 What ?? I thought E* was launching 2 satellites by the end of this year?

Well - the one we know about is AMC-14 - which BTW is NOT being launched BY DISH, they are leasing space on it.

Do you at least have an idea what the name of this second satellite is? Then maybe we can find out some additional info on when it is being launched.

Considering that the Echostar FCC filing for E11 stated that they hoped for a launch as early as October, 2007, I'd say E11 was one, and AMC-14 (already planned for a December launch) was the other.

Why is it important that AMC-14 isn't owned by Dish? It was built for Dish, and it's being launched for Dish.

Yepp, 100% leased by dish.

I think they were sending E11 to 110 to free up two sats there for other locations. That would give them 3(including AMC14) to do with as they pleased.

At this point, all we have in 2007 is hopefully AMC14, which probably does not help the plan much.
