Well - first post...

I recently had Dish installed - one 622 in the family room which works flawlessly and a 625 in the kid's playroom which I've had nothing but problems with. The original 625 worked for about a week and then went into an endless loop of trying the x of 5 steps to acquire a signal - occasionally powering off and then on again... That was replaced by a new unit - the tech came out and had 3 units - 2 of 3 were DOA...not exactly confidence inspiring.

So - the new 625 is installed and works fine - 2nd tv works - both remotes work correctly and all is good. I turn everything off and then go to tell the kids their tv is working again - go back downstairs to show them how to work everything and the guide will not come up. Now the weird part is the 2nd tv works fine - it's in my office and it's great. I've tried everything - the power button reset, unplugging overnight so it can reset - the dish online site said it was probably a transponder problem so I've tried different variations with the same results. To get a temp solution - I've disconnected the tv in my office and have them watching tv on the tv2 output.

Any ideas? I've got good signal strength - about 94-96 depending on clouds and the 622 has had no issues.

Check your house wiring to see if you have hot-neutral reverse. Also, if you are plugged into a Monster power product, plug directly into the wall to see if that fixes it.

I looked at house wiring again - I have a wiring closet where all phone/network and coax cables centralize. I went ahead and made that particular outlet be the second tv off my 622 and it worked fine.

I don't have it plugged into a Monster product - just a surge protector. I did take it off that and plugged it into the wall directly with the same results.

I've since done the reset again and it still isn't working on the TV1 output - it works perfectly on the TV2 output.

I would try swapping the 622 and the 625. If the 622 does the same as the 625 it is a wiring problem. If the 625 does the same thing after swapping with the 622 then it is the receiver. If it has been less than 3 months since the install, have a tech come out to check it out/won't cost you a penny
Hope this helps

I don't quite understand what you are saying, here. I was referring to the house's electrical wiring. A plug-in AC Power Tester cost less than $5. You plug it in and see which of 3 lights come on. If the house's hot wire and neutral wire are reversed on that circuit, a 625 will do as you describe in the original post. Also, plugging directly into the wall won't help if that is the case.

In the absence of a plug-in AC Power Tester you could run an extension cord from the known good receiver plug and test it that way.

But as we get to the end of this message, it sounds again like a bad receiver that lost the TV1 output. That happens.

Thanks for the responses so far. Sorry Jeff - I misunderstood your previous request on the wiring check - I went and checked the outlets with a tester and the wiring is correct - no neutral/hot switches. I also checked the surge protector outlets individually while I had the tester out and they were all fine.

Looks like I'll be calling Dish again....
