How much voltage does it take to operate...

When I set up my system, I checked voltages at the LNB and found them to be in the 18.2-18.6 VDC range. That was with about 100' of cable. Pat

Too Much $$$ to upgrade, going to DISH

So, did you take Robert up on his offer? .... Sometimes cheaper isn't always better.... Since you've seem to be a satisfied D* customer, perhaps some second thoughts are in order before going to E* Pat

    Pixalating!

No issues here with our R10. Is your unit hooked up to the phone for housekeeping? How full is it? If pretty full, you could try deleting the least important recordings and comparing. Is your unit OEM or upgraded (HD capacity)? Pat

    DirecTivo setup w/o TV!

From my remembrances of setting up our R10 recently, I needed to see text to navigate the menus in the setup. However, I noticed, even if power was disconnected, the information I had selected/input in the setup process remained after the unit re-started. IIRC, while I was dx'ing some alignment...

Upgrade DTV receiver to R10 w/new dish or go DISH network?

Since you're most familiar with D*, and it doesn't appear you have significant issues with them, I'd say to stick with them and approach them or a dealer for a DTiVo/switch/dish upgrade. You might PM or e-mail one of our resident dealers and get their opinion and offer and then compare to what...

    call back from DirecTV

Sometimes the best deal isn't always the best deal.... ;) I must say, even with some procurement/shipping snafu's (no fault of theirs), Robert and Graham are top drawer. Interestingly, since I started D* through VE, I've had nary a phone call from anyone. Peace and quiet :) Pat

    R10 Install ?

Any two cables can feed the R10. Also, you can use the R10 with only one cable, but will lose the ability to watch one channel and record another. Something to keep in mind if you add another R10 down the road. Otherwise, you would need a downstream multiswitch to add more cable capacity. Pat

Professional Installers out there....I'm Desperate for Help

Sorry, my mistake... Set up equipment in known clear location for test? I'm a bit confused by his report that things worked for a short period of time. Pat

Professional Installers out there....I'm Desperate for Help

I'm assuming the installer has tried a different LNB, yes? Oops, the last sentence of your post presumes not.. ;) Might be a bad multi-switch in there. They're gonna kick themselves .... Pat

Heh, been there done that. In this instance I forgot to allow for magnetic declination. Oops..:( Pat

Professional Installers out there....I'm Desperate for Help

Not having read the other thread, I'm assuming the OP's installer measured the voltage at the LNB. Yesterday, when troubleshooting my install, I got ~18.2VDC, both with my jumpers and with the actual install cabling. As noted, the equipment and wiring worked flawlessly; the problem was with the...

Professional Installers out there....I'm Desperate for Help

I actually had to do this today, and did use my RV TV as a monitor out on the patio with the DTiVo set up next to it. In my case I had some gross azimuth errors, due to my boy scout compass ;), so once I cabled up and discovered my error, I left everything in place and was able to quickly...

Does Directv offer any Discounts when you pay Automatically by CreditCard each Month?

I think you're smart for doing on-demand payment instead of auto-pay. That way you're in control, and can easily change CC's, depending on what incentive promos may be running at the time. I look at things another way. If I can float the payment for 45-50 days for free by using the CC with...

Professional Installers out there....I'm Desperate for Help

You oughta be a professional installer. I can't count the times the pro's overlook the obvious. Your OP made it sound like the house was pre-wired by the builder or yourself. Is this correct? FWIW, new cable can be bad, and new installations can be faulty. I've done a few myself :( Also...

Professional Installers out there....I'm Desperate for Help

Why don't they just bypass all the cables and set up right at the dish? Then, if OK, work their way back inside one cable set at a time. How long is your total cable run, including the inside wiring? What kind of inside cable do you have (brand and sweep)? Has all the unreplaced cabling been...
