As far as needing an extra remote i would have to say no. Just carry your present remote to wherever you are running the backfeed from the reciever to and go to rad shack and pick up some cheap repeaters and follow the directions and u should have no problemos with it.

Another thing that may be a possibility here is the LNB. I have seen this happen during power cycles more often then a reciver getting fried. And as far as the type of dish setting getting changed due to power loss or cycling , it does'nt matter if it does or not because the default is always...

Yeah i agree , if it's unplugged and u still hear the sound then it's not the reciever but if u have the protection plan by all means use it and won't cost u. good luck.

Another option may be a stand alone dvr u can pick up from best buy or circuit city and avoid all the drama of getting a dtv csr. You will have to know someone or you might be handy enough to get the second line run in.Hope this helps.
