I have a 512 receiver that was taken out of service when I discontinued Dish last year. If I sell it will Dish still activate it or is it now obsolete and destined for the recycle bin?

One thing to remember is that the 512 uses the UHF Pro RF system rather than the original RF standard they used. The original platinum remote for your 508 will work for IR but not UHF. You need one of the ones marked UHF Pro for it to work by RF. The only way I could seem to get mine to work on...

How about forward compatability. Will my 501 and 301 receivers work with a 1000.x dish? Or if I upgraded the dish would the old boxes have to go?

I have a Dishpro dual lnb dish for 110-119 with a single dish next to it for 129 and a DP 34 switch. Will the existing Dishpro equipment work with the VIP series HD receivers or will it have to be changed to one of the 1000.x antennas?

Don't bother trying to hook it up. The 1000 receiver was obsoleted about 1 1/2 years ago and is no longer supported. Dish will not activate it if you call.
