    DirecTV MPEG4 Rollout to begin

I can't say for sure, but just looking at the photo above, it looks like the new "mount" is also a lot bigger than the old one, so I'd guess the old one would not accept the new "mast".

    Spoken like a true installer.

    Additional MPEG4 / Detroit Info

Why wouldn't you be able to record in HD? If the NY HD channels are still in MPEG-2 for the forseeable future, your HD-TIVO should be fine? Right? The only issue I can see is if they add some national HD channels which should theoretically be MPEG-4, you wouldn't be able to record these with...

    That elusive D* 119 Sat

I think the problem is more that they agreed to hitch a ride with another bird at the same time. The other sat had issues, and had to be repaired prior to launching, hence the delay. It seems foolish to me to roll the dice like this. If D* is smart they won't hitch a ride with another sat again.

No need for a second dish, you'll just need a multiswitch, like this one: http://www.satelliteguys.us/attachment.php?attachmentid=7000

    Additional MPEG4 / Detroit Info

I believe that the 2 year commitment is the policy now for all "advanced" equipment, which includes HD STB's, HD DVR's and SD DVR's-my guess is that goes for equipment swaps or new purchases.

    DirecTV MPEG4 Rollout to begin

I'm curious now that the pictures of the new dish is out. The dish and the LNB's look significantly bigger than the oval/3 LNB dish, will this help deter rain fade...or is it more or less just to accomodate more sats on one dish? After the last 8 days of heavy rains here in the northeast, I'd...

ABC and FOX NY HD feeds have a bad signal

Not to ruin your day, but the callback won't get you far. It's a bug in the receiver. It doesn't handled pre-recorded material shot in 24 frames per second well at all. Live stuff like football which is 60 fps is fine. Welcome to the club. I don't know how D* gets away with releasing this...

Samsung 360 Problems on 720P channels on D*

The problem seems to be affecting ABC-HD as well, now that they added it to the lineup.

Samsung 360 Problems on 720P channels on D*

It seems to be happening more for people that have the national HD feeds, however there are some that have reported that it was happening on their OTA channels. The easiest way for you to see it is if you try to catch one of the movies they have on ESPN-HD....otherwise you'll probably only see...

Samsung 360 Problems on 720P channels on D*

Try to watch a prime-time show on Fox (Malcolm, House, etc), you'll notice the problem. The same goes for movies like "3" or "Hustle" on ESPN-HD. If you are lucky enough to get ABC-HD when it goes live you will really notice it then. It's not just commercials.

Samsung 360 Problems on 720P channels on D*

Since the box has both the Samsung and the D* logos stamped on it, I feel that each company has a certain amount of responsibility. It's been pointed out that depending upon where you bought your receiver from, you may or may not have had a choice in which box you got. I got mine from a local...

Samsung 360 Problems on 720P channels on D*

It's become apparent that D* and the Samsung 360 seem to have some sort of issue when displaying anything that is filmed and broadcast over the 720P format, specifically on FOX-HD and ESPN-HD. If you have the 360, and are lucky enough to get one of the FOX-HD national feeds, try to watch a...

    Superbowl in HD???

Over at AVSForum it has been said that the FOX East and West feeds are now back up and available to those with engineering cards (installers mainly). Both channels were not available previously (even with an engineering card) soon after the World Series was over. Call it speculation, but it...
