DVR HR21-Is there a way to configure video output?

So the "Live" sporting events go on the DVR without ideal compression, and when I try to record them onto DVDs, the issue surfaces .... ok, thanks for that tidbit of information, that makes sense. I'm thinking about to trying the Hauppauge HD PVR (which has component in). Sounds like that...

DVR HR21-Is there a way to configure video output?

Thanks texasbrit ... there is something different about HD football/basketball games vs the Cartoon Network's "Clone Wars". The Clone Wars (for my kids ;o) ) records fantastic from HD to SD ... sporting events don't, and I have no idea why. The quality of those isn't even close to being good.

DVR HR21-Is there a way to configure video output?

My recorder doesn't have component inputs (not many do from what I have seen), so unfortunetly that won't work for me ... thanks for the response.

DVR HR21-Is there a way to configure video output?

as in when I try to record an HD program on a non-HD DVD recorder (to "down convert" to 480i). For now, I just want to get a really good SD recording to play on standard DVD players. Is there a way to do this? My experience is that the HD shows (football games) don't record very well even...

    Hauppauge DVR

Thanks, I just found some other articles on this thing ... how do you "cut out comercials"? One thing I read said you cannot "time shift" or "remove comercials" (perhaps this is just in real time (i.e. no pause button when I'm doing a recording)).

"besides like you said you ain't saving $$$ monthly. plus even if you don't have the protection plan like me since the receiver or dvr is leased they replace it for free in case it fails on you. you would only have to pay for the shipping. i don't see any benefit to owning except paying more...

I verified I could use my current DVD recorder to record off of the HR21, so at least that works .... phew ;o)

Is DirecTV Trying To Keep DVRs From Recording Off Them

new TivoHD ... How do I connect the DirecTV HD reciever?

"Unfortunately, if he can't get a good OTA signal, (which is always possible) he's SOL on that front..." Exactly ... I could get Fox and NBC in HD with an OTA antenna, but with cable, I can get ABC, CBS, and PBS also. Most of the games I want to see/record are on ABC. Another question ...

new TivoHD ... How do I connect the DirecTV HD reciever?

Thanks guys ... yes, the reason I stayed away from the DirecTV DVR was the local HD channels not being supported (need to input cable). "Perhaps a little more research might be prudent before spending hundreds of dollars on a DVR that's usless for some of your HD prog - the HD Tivo's DO...
