HD First Impressions - Switched from Cablevision

:eureka Jimbo, Thanks for the feedback. As you pointed out, since Cablevision has so few HD channels I was comparing the older MPEG-2 encoding  (ESPN, HBO, HDNET, etc). A majority of the newer HD channels look as good as Cablevision when the broadcast is in HD. I also did not...

HD First Impressions - Switched from Cablevision

Yes, I re-adjusted the settings on 3 separate HD TV’s and also switched between HDMI and Component. Don't get me wrong I'm very happy with Direct TV but felt that the PQ from Cablevision was slightly better. I’m happy that I switched and my TV viewing is 10 times more enjoyable…….

HD First Impressions - Switched from Cablevision

Jimbo, I'm using HDMI and have the latest HD boxes from Direct TV which should be MPEG4. Since I've had the system for about a week, I have come to the conclusion that the HD PQ from Cablevision is slightly better (richer color) than Direct TV. My initial assessment did not take into...

How to get an additional $240 off as a new DirecTV customer

I called Direct TV at least 15 times to confrim my AAA order. Each time I called I the CS rep was not able to fully confirm my order. One said I had it the other didn't see it etc. I finally spoke with a supervisor who was going to handle this and promised to call me back within the next few...

HD First Impressions - Switched from Cablevision

I have 3 Direct TV HD boxes and they are all set at 1080I. I re-checked all the wires including the signal strength and all is good. Don't get me wrong, the Direct TV HD channel looks good compared to SD but I do not get the HD WOW factor. In my opinion the HD PQ from Cablevision is 10 times...

HD First Impressions - Switched from Cablevision

I was not happy with the HD lineup that Cablevision provided and decided to switch to Direct TV. Here's a list of my first impressions: 1. Install was smooth. 2. I signed up with the AAA offer (free showtime for 1 yr, 10 credit for 24 mothns etc) but was not set up correcltly on my...

Need Help....Currently with D* Switching to IO Cablevision.

I encountered my first problem with my 83000 HD DVR box. Once in a while it flickers on the HD channels. When I switch to an SD channel it continues to flicker and the output does not adjust back to 480. It remans on 1080 output on the SD channels. I need to re-boot the box for it to go...

Update: I finally got IO today. The install went smooth and the Tech made sure that I had a strong signal. So far I'm impressed with the HD PQ and have no regrets abouting switcing from Direct TV. I get a lot more HD channels along with other great benefits (Cable Modem, VOIP, HD DVR)...

Rang1995 - What does "0db" mean? Also, when you say diagnostics screen I assume you are referencing a device that tech has but can I also check this on the cable box screen?

dishrich - Mask HD should have read "MSG HD". It was accidentally changed during spell check. PS....This deal is available to satellite customers only and will cover up to $200 in breakage fees with your current salellite provider.....I belive this deal may have expired on July 31.

NLK - Mask = "MSG HD" the spell check changed it to MASK. GNR & NLK - The HD box that I'm getting is the 8300 HD DVR. This supports HDMI and read that the PQ is much better than the HD 4200....Any thoughts? Thanks
