    leased box for new sub

I sincerely hope it is the Joey 4 and NOT the 4K Joey, which cannot decrypt HDR so you can't watch any of Dish Network's programming on the 540 channels. Unless you record them on the Hopper then play them on the 4K Joey where they will probably be washed out colors and dim picture on the 4K...

What's the difference in the Joeys?

There really isn't much need for an ATSC 3.0 dongle for the Hopper3. All your major local channels will be carried over satellite. The ATSC dongle is merely a gratuity from Dish for OTA reception as a backup , but now there is the streaming option. And their current ATSC tuner isn't that great.

Explain the 3.0 debate (likely scenarios)

The logic is that OTA TV is a major avenue for Emergency Broadcasting and if the channels are DRM'd and your ATSC 3.0 tuner can't display them, it is a public information fiasco and possibly illegal.

The FCC Will Allow ABC, CBS, FOX, & NBC TV Stations to Shutdown Free ATSC 1.0 & Switch to ATSC 3.0 Only

We may all have to keep Dish Network forever if OTA goes ATSC 3.0 and DRM! CHARLIE WINS AGAIN! BTY, NO ONE in my DMA is even experimenting with ATSC 3.0. If my 5 TiVos can't pick up a signal I'll not bother to buy an ATSC 3.0 tuner, regardless.

Explain the 3.0 debate (likely scenarios)

It may not be the FCC that is out of touch . Broadcasting pornography and profanity willy-nilly over FTA broadcasting is out of touch.

Lost Tuner 3, need to replace my LMB?

As a matter of fact I did try through Dish and the CSR said that the computer system did not show a wireless J4 available to me because I do not have a Hopper+. So, I did it myself and it actually reduced my monthly bill $2 because the owned Joey 4 is charged @ $5 while the leased Joey is...

Lost Tuner 3, need to replace my LMB?

I upgraded from a wireless Joey 3 to a wireless Joey 4. Bought it on line, called Dish and they activated it. Did not want the Joey 3 back, so it sits on a shelf.

    Dish 60.0 Remote

Fewer buttons means less usability. It means burying functions deep in menus, actually making some functions difficult to find or use. I still use my 40.0 UHF remote often when playing back recordings since the 50 remotes make it more difficult to fast forward ( press and hold instead of a...

Tropo DX TV reception in Carrollton, MO on 8/14 & 15/2025

I lived in Carlsbad, NM many years. We had an old Finco 400 "bedspring" antenna (see my avatar). I had picked up signals from Alabama, Florida and San Francisco on that antenna. I was regularly able to receive KAMC 28 from Lubbock (175 miles) and channel 9 from Midland (155 miles). My...

    4K Events Discussion Thread

Record the channel on your Hopper, then you can view it on a non-HDR TV. I have A 2015 Samsung 65 inch non-HDR 4K TV and recording works. In fact you can start watching immediately after starting the recording. just make sure you are watching the recording, not the satellite feed. I can even...

Lost Tuner 3, need to replace my LMB?

There might even be a model number on the LNB somewhere. Order one just like it.

Hopper 3 YouTube app - no 4K or HDR

I don't know about today's applications but when Dish first installed apps on the Hopper, the apps were supplied by the originating company and were often inferior. I suppose because they did not optimize their app to match the Hopper. YouTube once even stopped upgrading their Dish app, so...
