To close this issue out - it was the receiver. Got it replaced, along with getting all cables, etc checked out. Thanks everyone for the assistance.

Yeah, TV2 is connected by coax - which worked fine until the new receiver came in. Already tried doing factory reset while on tech support last time, which didn't do anything but get me in better shape running up and down the stairs. I checked the connections on the outside a couple of days...

Moving the receiver into a more open location didn't have any impact on the TV2 issue (although it does seem to lower the hdd temp slightly - looking at 71 low, 120 avg (was 122), and 130 high). I even left it unplugged for an hour to see if that would help cool it back down, plugged it back in...
