    Need Birdview experts!

I appreciate GREATLY the time and expense you all put into this. I will pass this info on to someone that will know how to make one. Also will look more into the "offset bearing" that N0EXE mentioned. Can't do much until the Thanksgiving weekend when I am in the area. At present, the dish...

    Bird View setup

Interesting..if it worked for you it should have worked for me. Unless I got my story backwards. This was about 6 years ago...and all I can remember is, the dish numbers were advancing at an unbelieveable rate. It was either the newer motor or 24 magnet wheel that I had to order to remedy the...

    couple 4dtv questions

If you live in the central United States, a 6-foot dish "may" be good enough. I would advise a minimum of 8-feet. If you live on either coast, 8 to 10 should be the minimum. A 6-foot dish on the coast will have trouble receiving the satellite footprint. There's also far less room for...

    My Birdview Project, need HELP!

I see by the attached photo that you have the scaler adapter plate. I tried one of those a few years ago and sent it back to Skyvision. Just could not get a decent signal no matter what I tried. Went back to the original Birdview scaler.

    My Birdview Project, need HELP!

I still see the "reed sensors" on the Skyvision website. http://skyvision.com/store/system_replacement_parts.html Scroll to the bottom of the page. The Birdview receivers will only work with the original Birdview DLNA and actuator. Replace the DLNA with a modern LNB, replace the original...

    Bird View setup

You guys are way more into this than me, but in my experience, the number of magnets needs to be cooperative with the type of motor being used. For example, I tried using the 24 magnet wheel with the orignal (and faster) 37:1 motors....and wow, the dish numbers raced faster than you could blink...

Von Weise motor on a Birdview

You might try Skyvision. I don't seem them listed on the website anymore, but it couldn't hurt to call. They used to sell the newer 70:1 (slower) motors which are used with the 24-pole magnet. The original motors were 37:1.

    Bird View setup

DEFINITELY keep the scaler ring. A while back, Skyvision sold an adapter plate that was designed to replace the Birdview scaler. The user could then attach any feedhorn/scaler combination of their choice. I tried this, and could never get a decent signal using the common scaler rings that...

    Bird View setup

I didn't mean to scare anyone :). However while I was replying to the other poster about converting his Birdview, even I was thinking "Oh boy, this is gonna take some work." The Birdviews, with their horizon-to-horizon mount and proprietary receiver/DLNA system were unlike the more common...

Question reagrding old system setup for birdview system

It's going to take some effort to get your system up to speed to work with a 4DTV receiver, which is what you'll need if you want to view what's left of "consumer" c-band subscription programming. If I recall correctly, the original Birdview receivers and DLNA (the white rectangular box in the...

    c-band: Spun aluminum or mesh

The Birdview dish at my parents' home still looks new (minus the Birdview decal). About 3-4 times a year, I give it a cleaning with a mixture of bleach and water. Takes the bird droppings, sap, soot, etc, right off and doesn't harm the finish. Sadly, many Birdviews are abused and end up looking...

    Need Birdview experts!

I believe I know exactly what this "notched" piece is that you are referring to. In fact, I have a new one that was given to me many years ago by a local satellite installation shop that was going out of business. They had a few spare Birdview parts and just gave them to me. It's about 3 inches...

    Need Birdview experts!

This sounds very similar to the problem I had..as when the problem occurs, the dish will only move "maybe" an inch either way before seizing up. Through man-handling the dish I am able to get it moving again, but it's only a matter of time before I will get the dreaded phone call from my...

    Need Birdview experts!

Yes please! I am no longer at my parents' home, but will be making a trip down during the Thanksgiving weekend. If you can get me the exact measurments, we will get one made. The original bushing is still attached to our dish...but it is not in good shape. In trying to remove it, about half of...

    Need Birdview experts!

I greatly appreciate any specifics you can provide. Any guess what something like that would cost? Would any local machine shop likely be able to make one? We could get the bushing to "spin" but could not get it to move upward very much...maybe just 1/16 of an inch. Any more pressure applied...
