Have an older DVR40 ,had no problems. Recorded free showtime movies normally like for anything. What type of message or prompt did you get ? Did it occure when you set it up? or did set work but just did not record? If the latter is true,check record history,may tell you why it did not.

None of the SD receivers have 480P component out,HOWEVER.. the HD receivers are capable of it. So here is another question...does the HD receiver component outputs produce 480p out while it is viewing a non HD channel??

The PPV movie can be retained as long as you want to,you can view as many times as want,and even dump to DVD or VCR recorder. Just make sure your option for it is set to "Keep until I Delete" so it does not accidently delete if the DVR starts filling up with other stuff.
