    Birdview AP2028 ?

Depending on where you're moving to in New Mexico there's plenty of old BUDs in people's yards. I know of several Birdviews, one is mounted on a mast at a home in downtown Albuquerque. There is a high percentage of tech nerd hobbyists in this state with two national laboratories and other...

Any FTA out of New Mexico ?

We spell it Adovada as in Carne Adovada in New Mexico, 'cause we've been gringo-ized. ;-) Red, green or Red/Green they all taste good. Had some Green Chile stew with Green Chile cheese cornbread for breakfast today.

    CaptiveWorks CW-3000HD

My CW-3000HD picks up all the local OTA unencrypted ATSC channels. Also, Comcast cable broadcasts the local digitals in the clear. So you can record either. There is no EPG for any ATSC, so you'll need to schedule based on info you gather elsewhere.

Maybe finally some cheaper FTA prices...

Yep, the tech specs look good, but if the importer/distributor doesn't care about FTA users then factory software support will be awful. It's sad that some software bug fixes never get beyond the hack software. :(

Maybe finally some cheaper FTA prices...

Was just crusin' eBay today and saw some "refurb" ExtremeView Magnum XV-3300 starting at US$50 "free shipping". I couldn't find much info here with a search. Anyone have any experience with one of them with true FTA?

interesting use for the old dish

I took an old 18" single LNB pizza pan (freebie), pulled the back off the LNB, removed all the internal electronics, cut down the feed horn and mounted a copper bi-quad at the approximate focal point. My neighbor and I then shared cable broadband for over a year until I moved last month. I...

4:2:2 - This refers to chroma subsampling, right?

After a private discussion on the Captiveworks factory forum I found out they are using an older version of Xine that doesn't support 4:2:2. Hopefully they will update to a newer version to provide 4:2:2 support.

4:2:2 - This refers to chroma subsampling, right?

Since the Captiveworks CW-3000HD is basically a peecee with Linux and fancy wrappers around VDR and Xine it should have the capability to do 4:2:2, since Xine uses libmpeg2 which is supposed to support 4:2:2. I've never pointed mine at a 4:2:2 feed and right now all the sat equipment is in...

TV to lug up to the roof

I was at the Sears Appliance center the last day of Oct when they received an e-mail from corporate saying get rid of all analog only teevee with 80% off. They had a 15" Sharp Aquos LCD sitting on the shelf and I asked them about it. Since it wasn't HDTV they assumed it wasn't digital capable...

Lost signal all of a sudden on Trans. 1 Nimiq 2 Expressvu

Where did I ever suggest anyone here was using anything but "legit Bell receivers"? Too much coffee this AM? I guess you didn't comprehend my post. The point is Expressvu realigning the TPs, for whatever reason they chose, effects everyone receiving an Expressvu beam in the lower 48. The...

Lost signal all of a sudden on Trans. 1 Nimiq 2 Expressvu

What people are seeing maybe an artifact of Expressvu going after people using "third party" firmware for the purpose of signal theft. The recent FTA receivers released with MPEG2 HD support are only a "third party" firmware install from signal theft using Nimiq 2/4. I'm thinking a lot of...
