    Post-storm woes

Thanks so much for talking me off the elevation adjustment ledge. I went out and measured the leg to the dish rim, checked the feed being parallel, and also measured the elevation and declination...well, as suspected, the angles were still good. I swung the dish on the polar mount, but bit the...

    Post-storm woes

Update: Some progress, but I'm still off the arc big time. I can confirm the pole's still vertical. The dish doesn't appear to be bent, but I haven't done a formal string test yet (hard to do when you're just one person). Basically, I used a different receiver to blind scan and drive the...

    Post-storm woes

Thanks! That was my assumption, too. Unfortunately, I've tried rotating the dish along the pole west and east today, and no results on 101W. I have also tried using the actuator to move the dish east and west once aligned in a new position, but no signal that way either. I'm sure I am still...

    Post-storm woes

A tornado came through our area about a month ago, toppling over a huge 50 ft tree. My BUD wasn't affected. Then, just last week, an unexpected storm stirred up again with downbursts and very gusty winds. My BUD was a casualty. The actuator was fully extended and over on 127W. After it was...

    Mediumwave suggestions?

I've been away from the forum for awhile, and it's my first post here in radio section! I have a couple of the authentic RTL-SDR dongles plus the NooElec upconvertor. Works ok on SW, but I haven't been too impressed with MW performance. I was wondering if anyone had good experiences with...

Can't reset soft limits... actuator problem?

OK, don't groan too loudly... but the problem has been discovered. It's a little embarrassing! The time away helped me calmly rethink everything. On a hunch, I brought out the extension cords, the V-box, and some good quality smaller gauge wire to the actuator. Let's give it a go. Yes...

Can't reset soft limits... actuator problem?

I am appreciative of everyone's help, but it will take me some time to try these suggestions out. I'm currently 50 miles away from home. Once I do get back, the only way I can get help with the 12v battery going while using the meter on the reed switch is with my father, who just had open heart...

Can't reset soft limits... actuator problem?

Interesting. I haven't thought of that. I think I've done this before with a v-box; sometimes it would work -- sometimes not. Anyone have a photo or diagram of where these are in the ASC1 (I'll have to find an allen wrench to do this -- what size, do you remember off hand)? Gone for a few...

Can't reset soft limits... actuator problem?

I loosened the screw so much that it did come out, and the magnetic wheel slid further down the shaft. But it still would not rotate left or right. I guess I could have tried to take the magnet off, but I figured we're trying to rotate it and not remove it entirely. I wouldn't think so...

Can't reset soft limits... actuator problem?

0.001 to 0.003 When shorted, yes, 0 ohms. Cannot "spin" wheel, even when loosened, so cannot test this. The problem is, I cannot freely spin the magnet. As seen in the photo, the magnet is part of a threaded piece that the metal gear interacts with. Loosing/removing the screw only allows...

Can't reset soft limits... actuator problem?

Thank you so much! Both sensor wires are in good condition. I also double checked the motor wires, and they are good.

Can't reset soft limits... actuator problem?

Replaced the sensor. Unfortunately, no change. How could I use the multimeter to make sure the ASC1 is delivering power on the reed sensors? The wiring I guess is the next suspect, but it's buried and I see no evidence of damage from the exposed sections. Is there a way to test this without...

Can't reset soft limits... actuator problem?

Rain is forecast for the week, then cold temperatures, then a conference to attend ... so I won't be able to do any more troubleshooting at the dish for a while. By then, the sensor may have arrived in the mail. Thanks for the advice. We'll await until the next weekend and see...
