    Dish skins

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping for an official size of the Dish before the auction (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PITTSBURGH-STEELERS-SATALITE-DISH-COVER-FITS-24-DISH-NEW-NEVER-USED-/221379544693) was over, so I did an internet search for Dish sizes. I read that most Dish Network sizes are 18"...

    Dish skins

I have been having issues with Dish Network during the recent snow in my area. Three different times the HD signals are unavailable and certain channels (i.e. FeTV & CMT HD) cut in and out stating the signal is lost. Most of those times, the local ABC/NBC/CBS were the only channels available...

    Why FTA?

Thanks for all the great feedback! This is a definitely a friendly community! I started pricing equipment and have a few questions about it. 1) What minimum requirements should a receiver box have installed? 2) Are all satellite receivers compatible with FTA, such as any DirecTV, Dish...

    Why FTA?

I am by no means that evil to steal signal; if it is "publicly open signals" that FTA receives that's one thing. Heck, I enjoy free stuff like the next person, but not free things that incurs jail time. At least in my case, Dish doesn't charge extra when there is no phone line plugged into the...

    Why FTA?

What channels are you referencing: just ABC, CBS, & Fox; or are there other big name networks found using FTA? For instance, my household would be happy with receiving NBC, Comedy Central, GSN, MTV, Nickelodeon, ABC Family, ABC, CBS, Food Network, A&E, Travel, and TBS.

    Why FTA?

Sounds really neat of a system! I am not much of a news watcher though. I am mostly interested in sitcoms, game/competition shows, music, and Steelers football. That's not to say I won't watch hockey for the fist fights of course! However, the concerts mentioned earlier sounds really cool...

    Why FTA?

Thanks for the speedy replies! When I read the post on slickdeals, the person who wrote the comment made it sound like Dish (or any other satellite subscription service) hoodwinked customers; FTA is the best option around and everyone is stupid for paying for satellite. When I researched FTA...

    Why FTA?

I first heard mention of FTA while on slickdeals.net, while looking up special incentives to join Dish Network. I read the first two FTA hits from an online search, and FTA doesn't sound impressive to me. Not intending to bash FTA, but after reading the list on FTAlist.com, only one channel...

    CONUS & spotbeam questions

I did some research and it is the name of the latex manufacturer from the sitcom Seinfeld. Oddly enough, another portmanteau ["sitcom"] appears in this thread, what are the odds?

    CONUS & spotbeam questions

That's acceptable, as long as it doesn't implement the stern lecture formula aforementioned, i.e. abundantly clear. P.S. I recall that Gordon Shumway is the alias that the popular hairy alien ALF used, but I haven't heard of Vandelay Industries.

    CONUS & spotbeam questions

I believe all my questions have been answered on this topic. Thanks for all the interactive help from the majority of the group. I have learned much more than I anticipated!

    CONUS & spotbeam questions

I thought I made this abundantly clear that I tagged you in post #25, but I guess I was too subtle about it.

    CONUS & spotbeam questions

I checked on my Dish channel guide, and, basing on the channel's programming content, the WTRF descriptions should read as follows: 5291 WTRF (7) Wheeling, WV - CBS, 7 6790 WTRF3 (10) Wheeling, WV - ABC, 10 6793 WTRF2 (32) Wheeling, WV - FOX, 32

    CONUS & spotbeam questions

The three WTRF channels are confusing to many people. As I mentioned earlier, WTRF runs 3 of the big 4 networks: CBS, ABC, & Fox. They use the same news staff for all three networks; for the longest time, this area did not have ABC or Fox -- until about 6 years ago.

    CONUS & spotbeam questions

I believe I understand a bit better. The foil was used before the 77 tweak was revoked; now there is no need to foil in my DMA. Speaking of HD locals, I don't seem to find local sub-stations in my DMA, such as RTV ("Retro TV" found on WTOV's OTA digital channel 9.2). I don't believe there is...
