The Hopper installer has arrived let the fun begin!

Tech showed at my place about 5pm CST for same day install of Hopper w/ 2 Joeys. Initially could not find line of sight for satellites due to thick forestation behind property but after an hour found a place to mount dish. System up and running now and everything looks great. Online says...

    Dish vs. DirecTV

Hi gang, Serious question: I am a DTV subscriber and have been for about three years (since E* gave up MLB). I am considering a switch back to E* since I can get MLB elsewhere (MAC, Roku). What are the primary differences between DTV and E* apart from baseball? I won't pay for Sunday Ticket...

    Equipment Question HR20

Thanks guys. I'm in the Tupelo, MS market (actually Starkville), about 80 miles from either the Memphis or Jackson locals market, which both have the HD locals. I asked a rep about our area and he had no clue. Guess I'll just continue boycotting NBC, ABC, and Fox since they stupidly think I...

    Equipment Question HR20

Hi all, I have two HD DVR's (HR20). I live in a market where Dish and Cable both carry HD locals but DTV does not. I have tried every antenna imaginable apart from installing a lightning rod on the roof to pick up locals in HD...I can get only one consistently (CBS from 27 miles away)...

Fall 2009 HD Local HD Launches

Anybody know if Tupelo, MS will ever get on that list? Cable and E* have HD locals there already.

    NESN HD Questions

I'm in WA so I have to buy the sports package but NESN HD is 24/7 here. Not all programs are truly HD but almost every sporting event I've seen on NESN is in HD. I think all Sox games are in HD this year.

    Which player to buy?

LOL...you must not have a wife to talk like that! Or if you do why don't you show her your post. Anyway, yes, I am ordering a PS3. I think it will do all the things I really require for now, plus the wife can play Sonic all she wants! Cheers and thanks for the advice from everyone!

    Which player to buy?

What is the actual difference in audio output via HDMI vs. optical audio output?

    Which player to buy?

Ok, now I'm really confused. My JVC receiver has connections for 7 speakers plus a subwoofer. I use an optical cable to connect my current DVD player to the receiver. I assume that means my sound is digital. The receiver auto-decodes whatever is input and it sounds great to my ears. When...

    Which player to buy?

Hi all, I'm ready to jump into the BD market and buy my 1st player. Any suggestions as to which player has the best features, reliability, etc...? What are the essential differences between a PS3 BD player and a standalone unit other than the ability to play games? Cheers, Rob

Are upconverting players as good as BD?

I don't really have a horse in this race other than the fact that I own an HD-DVD player. I chose it simply because it was cheaper than BD and nothing else. So, now that HD-DVD has lost the battle I will switch to BD when the price comes down a bit...I told my wife that sub $300 would be good...

    HD-DVD Picture Quality

Thanks for the response. I assume the image in the post is a 1080p since Blu-Ray doesn't do 1080i native, right? So far, I have been using many of my SD-DVD's or rentals from Netflix as comparisons. I can definitely see the difference when watching a TV channel in HD versus an upconverted...

    HD-DVD Picture Quality

Hi all, I hope this isn't a dumb question but here's what I'd like to know: I have an A3 HD-DVD player and a Samsung DVD-VCR w/ 1080i upconversion. Both of my HDTV sets are 1080i native (bought before 1080p was available). What is the actual difference in picture between a true HD-DVD and a...
