    Anyone know the HSP??

I am thinking about moving to the Schroon Lake area of up-state New York. Does anyone know the HSP that operates in that area?? I am a current D* installer and any help would be appreciated.

    Another Phone Line thread

The reciever does come back right away as a responder, but D* pings the reciever again anytime from 2 weeks to 30 days after installation. My HSP also counts this against my responder rate. So, if the customer decides to use your phone line for their use we still lose that responder. We have...

    Rude Installer

If you haven't been reading we were waiting for you to tell us about what you were getting. Like I said before, I have no reason to complain, I live in an area where the median income is like 20G and I make 50-60G a year.

    Installation Issue(?) Question

He should have at least checked it to make sure it looked ok. Although not recomended, barrel connectors work fine, it is the same as connecting to a ground block. Try switching the two wires on the receiver and see if it follows the wire or it is the reciever itself. As for helping the guy out...

I've had them not work from the box. If they have an HDTV I would know when I put it in and could swap it with a good one. No HDMI port on tv, Can't even check it.

    Rude Installer

Required to or not, my HSP tells me to put it in anyway with whatever connection I can use. Its all about completion rate to them. And BTW I am not rude to my customers, I do what I can for them and get it done. My HSP is one of the highest paid around, I average 1200-1300 per week and very...

Searching for signal on satellite in 2 (771)

According to D* coiling 50ft of coax behind the receiver does fix the problem with low signals on HDDVR's. Don't know why, but I have seen it work. My HSP also says to do this B4 replacing receivers.

    SWM install requested

Yep, and the way the new HDDVR's are set up, if you can't get the signal above a certain point, D* will not activate it. I'm sure if you explain to them that a newbie at Satelliteguys said it would be fine they will do it. HAHAHA

    Rude Installer

Haha, no doubt. Were you one of the countless people that want a HD upgade and don't even have an HDTV?? I hate doing those because I've had several HD receivers that have bad HDMI ports. If it within 60 days of install, then I have to drag my butt back out there for no pay to replace it or to...

    SWM install requested

yep, we don't go that far from this area. You will probably get an employee in that area instead of a sub. Like you said, you are most likely screwed as far a signal is concerened, just don't take it out on the tech for not trying. If he installs it and it won't pick up, he then gets no pay for...

    SWM install requested

What part of ohio? I work for skylink and my area services some of ohio. All the techs in this area are pretty good at their job and will do what they can for you, but it just might not be possible. But, I will say a swm dish is hard to come by from this company so be forewarned.

    Installation Horrors

And for you, outerub, I may have one better. I was at an install that required me to move a large dresser with a LOT of crap on top. Rather than move all of it I asked the customer if she would help hold things in place while I slid the dresser out. Now, out of habit, I always pull out the top...

    Installation Horrors

Thats nothing, JosephB. Most techs that have been doing this long enough have learned how to block certain things out. If you house isn't incredibly dirty and stinks, they won't even notice it. I've learned how to block out almost everything. Barking dogs, screaming kids, clothes everywhere. I...

    Installation Horrors

I'm a tech myself and have been in some bad situations before. I have knelt on carpet to find it is soaked with dog urine. (nothing like smelling like pee for the rest of my day). I have had to knock cat feces off of a power strip to plug in a reciever. I have been in a crawlspace and heard a...

    SWM install requested

D* spec say that the swm will not work mor that 125ft from the reciever without an amp which will cost extra if the teck will even take the chance on it working that far. We are told by my HSP that we are not to install any Ka/Ku dishes farther that 150ft. from the reciever and no more that...
