Not sure what TV you have but my Panny won't pass anything HDMI to it's optical out except for 2 channel PCM. Originally I thought there was a problem, then realized it's designed that way. That's one reason why I let the receiver handle all the audio via optical from all my devices.

I can't speak about Cablevision as they are not in my area. But, both local cable companies charge extra for both the equipment and HD programming. Neither of which can compare to D* in quality, quantity or price.

With the governor we have, nothing would surprise me!

I have lived about 50 miles inland from Savannah all my life. Wait until you experience Sand Gnats(not talking about the minor league baseball team either) for the first time! You will be thankful for the screnn porch. That is if you can stand to sit outside in 90+ temps with 90+ humidity...

I had Alltel for years and loved it, then last year the company I work for made all of us change to Verizon. So far I have had no problems with coverage and I travel all over the country. One thing I do not like though, is Verizon locks their phones down so many of the features can't be used...

You will have to call D* to activate. Access cards are married to their individual receiver ID's.

AMEN! I remember those days, guess that shows our subscriber age! My bill is not quite what yours is but close. I did get a free replacement basic receiver once.

It's really a good deal for new customers to get free or deeply discounted hardware. However, it would also be nice if some of us 10 year + dedicated subscribers could get a break. Oops, guess I did! Got the AM21 for free.

Another avenue for a 2" mount is to seek out a local industrial machine shop. Ask them if they have 2" Outside Diameter Steel Tubing. That's where mine came from, 2" OD tubing with 1/4" wall thickness. I think mine was $30 for 10'.

I agree, after working with networks from small (2 or 3 clients) to large (thousands of clients); DHCP has it's place. But, to me a small home network is better suited for static. My network has approximately 30 devices all static addressed and I maintain a spreadsheet of the device, it's MAC...

Be careful with Nero MediaHome. There have been many people, including myself, who have tried this and it totally locked the system down requiring a RBR to recover, but only after Nero has been shutdown.

Run the cable. It's better to run it now even if you don't use it.
