Actually moving, not 'moving' / no phone

I got the move and installation done. No contract extension was added on, not that I have any plans on leaving them. I just rather know I can stop pending some unforeseen line of sight issue. Installer did a very good job. Very professional. And went along a whole lot better than the original...

Actually moving, not 'moving' / no phone

Iceberg, I have a 18" dish (currently and at the new place<new place is wired for comcast>). The reason I was worried about the phone line, is that I don't want the installer getting screwed out of his work. I remember reading in the past that it was a requirement. Jimbo, Way back when I first...

Actually moving, not 'moving' / no phone

Ok. I am about to move soon up the street, and I want to keep my existing setup of 3 DirecTivos (Sumsung 8040s). And It will probably not going to ever have a landline in the new house. I don't want 'free' HBO/channels/equipment. I don't want a two year contract. I especially don't want the...

    ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE

I have been using AVGfree for some time now. Never found any viruses. PC recently started acting funny so I recently tried Kapersky. It found several, while AVGfree found nothing wrong.

Google OS - What do you think?

I too, try most things Google. Mainly for mail, voice, and calender, and that is limited. I am more worried about what the privacy policy is. From what I heard Chrome is a great browser, but everything you type is sent back to Google. Is that true? If so imagine the lack of privacy on the OS.

    Parents cancelled D*, have questions

If you do not have the protection plan you WILL be put into another commitment, UNLESS your current hardware is leased.

    Phone lines

The R15 does not need to be hooked up to a phone line to install/operate.

AT&T merger and dry dsl (aka Naked DSL)

I agree. When I started this thread, I was intending this to see if D* had any intention of planning on retro fitting older systems to be able to run with out phone lines. I have read that the R15 can be setup without it, but I also read everyone hates that system when comes to the interface...

AT&T merger and dry dsl (aka Naked DSL)

Doesn't D* boxes have to call in HQ to upload PPV info, and also needed for new installs. My DTivo calls out about once or twice a week.

AT&T merger and dry dsl (aka Naked DSL)

Not to go way off topic now. But with the AT&T / BellSouth merger, it is rumored that they will be offering "dry DSL" from a dslreports.com article. As soon as it is offered, I am signing up for it, and dropping my landline. But my real question is, do you think D* is finally going to find...

Why does my receiver power off for no reason?

I have been reading alot about D* Tivos rebooting lately, for no reason in other forums. All of my Samsung 4080 (non-hacked) have been rebooting at least once a week. At no particular time, or day. Check out Tivo Community and read a few of their threads.

    Installation Nightmare (ongoing)!

I love your comments! I had a wonderful install, after three tries, to get the installer out to my house. But about two hours later, D* fried my receivers. Installer input a DVR install for a regular install, and D* flagged it as fraud. When I called CS, I admit I was a little bit rude, but I...

    1 sub....2 houses

I love that advice. Two weeks later there is going to be a post complaining, "that D* shut down my illegal receiver while trying to'move'!" I am happy that D* lets people use a second receiver at a vacation home. This is one one case is why D* raises its rates. I'll try to keep the rest of...

    don't get caught moving

jdcolombo, I think that what you wrote is a fair statement. From what I read, it is that some people are trying to be too picky in what they want, and yet not pay for it. And some are needing the new waivers because they move a half a mile down the road. About a year ago, everyone...

    Is my installer gouging me?

I liked this thread, and found it a bit informative. But what I have been looking for some time now is, "What all is included in a basic install". For some time now D* would not say exactly what that is, and had a disclaimer that it recommended additional premium install. Customer Service...
