DIRECTV is not designing or building any new satellites. It is not designing/building new boxes for the satellites, it has plenty on hand.

Barring a technical failure, the sats have 5 or 10 years left. The spot beam sats are the oldest so local channels would probably go first, if DirecTV Is still in the satellite business then.

I believe you were an existing customer. They seem to be pushing new customers to the streaming side.
