Moving from satellite to streaming in 2026

In NY and NC each county must provide collection points for electronic recycling.

    Verizon buying Frontier

Since there is competition between Optimum and T-Mobile Fiber (MetroNet) here, and most customers are clueless as to the technology behind their ISP connection, I have stopped recommending T-Mobile to my neighbors in order to cut down on the oversubscription, unless they ask for my opinion.

    Verizon buying Frontier

I removed a post here where I claimed that my Metronet (marketed as T-Mobile Fiber) system used Wave Division Multiplexing to provide for multiple homes on a fiber. That was based on a mistaken idea that I had formed based on previous experiences in data networking before I retired. In...

    HR24-100 not updating software

The HR24-100 is up on the satellite now. It's on TPN 25, which is normal for that model. They don't waste transponder bandwidth for old models that no longer get firmware updates very often.

DIRECTV Moving to IP Delivery for Commercial Businesses

That problem occurs with multiple Genie clients on a Genie server in a home installation. Open floor plans create the problem. The only way I have found to solve it is HDMI splitters.

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 1/7/2026

I just checked out what has happened to my local Sinclair owned stations in the Greenville-New Bern-Washington, NC DMA (known locally as Eastern North Carolina or ENC). I have an LCC, so I also get OTA signals in my DirecTV Guide. I can see and tune to the local FOX station on Satellite on...

Directv Gemini Receiver - C71KWX Question

If I remember right, it only did that when it had no connection to a Gemini server or a WVB. I haven't felt like resetting my Gemini to duplicate that.

Directv Gemini Receiver - C71KWX Question

I don't think you will be sacrificing picture quality. I use the Gemini remotes for my systems. It does a nice job of controlling my TV, Gemini and AVR receiver using IR for the devices that need it. I discarded my "universal remotes" long ago. I do have to use the AVR remote when I am not...

Directv Gemini Receiver - C71KWX Question

I have never done that, so I can't say for sure. I did once reset a satellite configured C71K-400 while totally disconnected, configured it for Wi-Fi, and it seemed to be trying to set up for DirecTV Stream. The may have updated the firmware so that doesn't happen anymore. The Solid Signal...

Directv Gemini Receiver - C71KWX Question

If you acquire a C71KW-400 that has been configured for use as a Satellite client, you need to reset it to factory settings by holding the red button down for at least 20 seconds.

Directv Gemini Receiver - C71KWX Question

I am a satellite customer, so I don't have the experience to answer your question. However, I just wanted to comment that I have heard that the Gemini Air has a more powerful processor than the original C71KW.

    New HDD question

I can't remember my HR44 from 2010. The HR54 has slots in the bottom where you can insert a screw driver to release plastic clips holding on the top cover. The people that refurbish these things for DiecTV have a fixture with flat posts sticking up., The just press the unit down on the...
