My understanding is that software updates for the HR20 are via the satellite not requiring a phone connection whereas the older Tivo units get their updates from directly from Tivo (not D*) requiring the phone connection.

I am using the Harmony 880 universal remote with the HR20-700, works great, and does a good job with the other components as well.

Texasbrit; You were right, IR remote operation of my HR20 was affected by the backlight on my Sharp Aquos LCD TV. Turning off the OPD sensor operation on the TV apparently reduced the backlight interference enough to allow normal IR control of the HR20. Thanks again, Don
