MOD Systems Signs Warner Brothers and Paramount Digital Entertainment (SD Cards)

But you still have to go to a physical store for the content. Instead how about a box that connects to the internet in your home. Could be a PC, could be a game machine, could be something like the Roku box. Why bother making people drive to a B&M location?

    It's BAAAAACK!

On a cellphone screen VHS resolution looks pretty good. You don't need a whole lot more than that, especially since my phone is a Sprint HTC Touch with a QVGA display. Not the sharpest in the world but looks pretty good.

Panasonic Introduces World's First Portable Blu-ray Player

Not sure I'd want to let my 5-year old hold that on his lap in the back seat of the car. The portable DVD player we have gets hot enough. This thing probably gets REALLY hot. Not to mention... $800???

CES PR: JVC ANNOUNCES LCD TV/BLU-RAY PLAYER COMBO

If it were a small portable it might do OK. This thing is a non-starter. If it had the capability to do Netflix streaming, maybe.

Yes, it will play on the Creative Zen, the Archos players, and a few others. I don't think it will play on the Zune though. We need DRM-free digital copies! In the interim I am about to order one of these: Amazon.com: SanDisk SDMV1-R V-Mate Video Memory Card Recorder: Electronics Sandisk...

CES PR: New Blu-ray titles from Disney, including combo packs

:up +1 LOL I was thinking the same thing. Only available in Japan though.

Those digital files are no good on many portable devices. Sure, if you have a newer iPod it will play Ok. For those of us who shun the iPod we are left with few choices for using those digital copies outside of a PC. For example they will not play on my Windows Mobile 6.1 Pocket PC phone (HTC...

    It's BAAAAACK!

Agreed, as long as the combo disc does not completely replace the dedicated Blu-ray disc. If it replaced the dedicated DVD, that would be great, as long as they were playable in all DVD players. The DVD combo drive on my Toshiba laptop has a hard time playing DVD+RW discs so I have some doubts...

    It's BAAAAACK!

It would definately be a way to increase the price on catalog titles, many of which sell for $5 to $7 now as a DVD. If the studios released a few to see how they would do, say for $10 to $15, they just may take off.

Best way to clean Blu-ray player?

I guess I could hermetically seal my house, and use a military-grade HEPA filter for air circulation. Kinda seems like overkill to extend the useable life of my "free" Blu-ray player.

Best way to clean Blu-ray player?

That's the route I will probably take. My desktop PC and old DVD player have been disassembled regularly and cleaned out with either compressed air or a small air compressor (primarily used for inflating an air mattress). I just wasn't sure how different the optics were in the Blu-ray player.

    It's BAAAAACK!

It would be a good option for another segment - "value" releases. Back catalog titles, especially family films, that would benefit from the HD enhancement but would also be playable in a regular DVD player. Many of these titles have very limited special feature content anyway. Think about the...

Software updates for Sharp Blu-ray players

What this seems like to me is that either this Sharp player is not fully rev 1.1 compliant, or disc manufacturers have some leeway in how they publish for the format. Honestly, I haven't had a lot of trouble with this player. Two discs in particular had a hard time playing in all the time that...

Software updates for Sharp Blu-ray players

Here are more software updates for Sharp Blu-ray players. There is one update for models BD-HP21U & BD-HP50U, and a separate update for the model I have, the older BD-HP20U. Blu-ray Disc Player | software These updates correct issues playing the James Bond movies on the BD-HP21U and...

Best way to clean Blu-ray player?

I had to open up my old DVD player on a number of occasions for minor repairs and always found dust inside. From time to time I have also had to use a DVD cleaner disc, especially on my DVD burner. So you guys are saying that Blu-ray players are somehow better and do not collect dust inside...

Best way to clean Blu-ray player?

My player is in a spot where it collects a fair bit of dust. So far it hasn't been too big of a problem, but I know I will need to clean it out soon. Has anyone else had to deal with this yet? The instruction manual says do not use a cleaning disc that was designed for CD and DVD. Maxell now...

    Blu-ray ?

With a 42" set, sitting more than ten feet away you probably won't notice a difference between a good DVD and Blu-ray, especially with that upconverting player. We have a 52" set and with our normal viewing distance of about 12 feet I can see a difference, but admittedly it is a minor one. I...

    Revised Blu-Ray forecasts for 2008

There are very few titles that I will buy on either DVD or Blu-ray these days. Most often, if I buy a movie, it is on DVD, because it is cheaper and my wife and kids don't really care about the difference. The one recent exception was Wall-E, which I had to have on Blu-ray. DVD was not an...

    Last & Next Movie Watched

Bought Wall-E on preorder from WalMart.com. It didn't arrive until the 19th - my wife told me never to do that again. We finally watched it on Thursday the 20th. I hadn't seen it in the theater, but my wife and kids did. I can't believe it - it was even better than Cars. Pixar just keeps...

WSJ: Retailers Slash Blu-Ray Player Prices

As far as whether or not standalone DVD players will continue to be produced, I think back to the late 80's when the first affordable standalone CD players were available. In the 90's when affordable DVD players came out that could also play CDs, standalone CD players all but disappeared...

WSJ: Retailers Slash Blu-Ray Player Prices

The exception here would be if the broadband providers also became content providers, or partnered with content providers. Comcast, AT&T, or any other provider is not going to cap your usage if you are paying for content THEY are selling you. I expect them to start their own download services...

WSJ: Retailers Slash Blu-Ray Player Prices

Yes, for a time vinyl LPs and CDs co-existed. Now LPs are limited to special releases and are very hard to find. And while they are plentiful for now, even CD sales are starting to drop thanks to downloading, and the different ways that consumers listen to music now. Blu-ray and DVD will...

Redbox quietly begins testing Blu-ray rentals

This news is a little on the old side, but I thought it was interesting. It has been hinted in various articles found on the internet that Redbox was going to start testing Blu-ray rentals. Here are a couple of reports that Blu-ray titles have been spotted in the wild inside a Redbox: Redbox...
