Hopper 3 got hit with lightning.

Technically of you removed the drive from old hopper and put it in new hopper you could see your recording. However I'm not sure if the receiver and smartcard numbers are stored into the hard drive. So it may say you aren't active. But from there I guess you could transfer to external hard drive...

Hopper 3 got hit with lightning.

Thank you for responding, I have a couple clarifying questions, How exactly is the storage effected by the inability to boot up? Wouldn't the new hopper just treat it like an external drive and access the storage as long as thats not fried and transfer the recordings? Or is there some kind of...

Hopper 3 got hit with lightning.

If it won't boot up then unfortunately there's no way to transfer recordings. Aa far as surge protectors go there's no guarantee it won't happen again. If it's high enough voltage it's going to destroy everything including the surge protector no matter what. However I do not recommend the coax...

    Intelsat 18 180.0E Ku

Have you checked dishpointer.com ? The reason I ask is that if you are in California you should get at least 16 degrees of elevation and about 46 degrees skew. I have tried getting 180E here in California a few times without success. My problem is another house and trees that are in the way...

    Post-storm woes

I would try Mike's ^^^ suggestion first with the connectors. And if the connectors look good then check for voltage between ground and the center conductor. Beyond that, have you checked to see if the dish is bent? Also, is the pole still perfectly vertical from side to side and front to back??

It’s Labor Day! (So we’re not laboring)

That’s right Solid Signal fans, our offices are closed today. Our techs are home with their families, our warehouse staff is having a barbecue and as for me, your humble blogger, I’m working… as little as possible. The life of a blogger is a little different from the life of other folks. I’m...

    FOR SALE Complete FTA setup

I have to say I'm a little surprised nobody's grabbed this. Here's a list of what these components are selling for. Except for the dishes themselves most of this stuff is 2 years old or less. All located near Lehighton PA. KTI 7.5' mesh dish (Excellent C-band and Ku) - $7-800 C1W-PLL LNBF...

    Conical scaler

No, I did not. A conical scalar is needed for an offset dish used for C-band. Which is the question he asked.

    Conical scaler

Did you mean that it will see much more than dish surface, including lots of ground noise?

Hopper 3+ freezes with any On Demand title

After a ten year absence, I got Dish installed again this past Saturday. Have a Hopper 3+. Since the install I am unable to watch any on demand title as they freeze in the same place. Oddly though I am able to watch the same on demand titles on Dish Anywhere app on a firestick or cast it from...

    Failing LNB?

That voltage can be checked with the IRD Port on the Sat Buddy and a jumper to the Coax In on the Hopper. For a Hopper it should be showing about 26Volts. For a VIP 722 about 17 Volts but you may have water damage, not at the LNB but in the Cabling/Connections

    Failing LNB?

My 722 lost signal during a thunderstorm (typical Florida cloud cover event) but didn't come back after the storm passed. After multiple reset attempts and checking the point dish screen (all zeros on both 61.5 and 72.7), I discovered that if I leave the point dish screen up and unscrew the coax...

    Power Inserter Voltage

I have three different off-grid solar situations (RV and 2 homes). I originally started this thread as my mountain property had few options for dish placement. The dish only got signal 150' from the cabin. I was having issues with the receiver resetting and I thought it could be due to a voltage...

    Power Inserter Voltage

This is interesting and have been keeping up with the thread. The OP asks if a 12 VDC system can be used to power his SWM. But no mention of the string of components he has a need to power. Comments are going on a tangent. Straight from receiver to the dish? Any switches, etc. in the mix? The...

Should you ground a coaxial surge protector? Do you even need a coaxial surge protector?

What you see above you is a coaxial surge protector. It’s this one, in fact. While most coaxial surge protectors are designed for 50-ohm cables with N connectors, this one is designed for home cell booster systems with F connectors. It’s a mysterious piece of equipment, and a lot of folks don’t...

Want Starlink for your boat? Here’s what you need to do

Everyone’s talking about Starlink. And why shouldn’t they? It’s a real change to the way people get internet. It may be the first move toward a future where people don’t need fiber coming to their homes at all. Starlink is… …satellite internet, but not what you think of as satellite internet...

Lost local channels on your boat? Here’s what you can do

Here’s the basic problem. When satellite TV was first designed, it was designed for things that don’t move. Things like houses and restaurants. Looking back even further, all television was essentially built around the idea that you tended to stay in your local area. Back in the 1950s, driving...

Want to tailgate with DISH? Don’t choose a tripod

What’s better than a tailgate party? Fire up the barbecue, put on some TV and watch people find you! It’s a perfect way to make new friends. A lot of folks with DISH don’t want to tailgate, they tell me, because setting up the dish is a pain. You have to put the thing up on a tripod and spend...

    Future suggestion

Of course they get all three tuners. The DPP ports are connected to a Solo or Duo Node mounted right at the dish, so only one coax is needed for the long run to each receiver. Dish hasn't authorized any of my installations. Dish probably doesn't like that I take one of my 1K4's apart and move...

    Future suggestion

Sounds good but those aren't Dish Authorized installs. They want connections on or in the house near a ground point

    Grounding Satellite + Antenna

I read that. With my house there isn't a place to ground the wire at the point of entry. Grounding it to the satellite ground was bad and caused the ground loop hum. Grounding it in the house where it comes into the closet using the panels green screw results in no hum.

    Grounding Satellite + Antenna

Satellite and TV antenna grounding is usually done at the point of cable entry into the house. You should NEVER use some other device's ground but instead, make an independent run to an established "bonding point". The ground in the case of satellite dishes and TV antennas is mostly about...

    Grounding Satellite + Antenna

You do not want your antennas or satellite dishes left ungrounded. NEC code requires that all antennas/satellite dishes be grounded. If you are experiencing hum then it is because of an improper grounding setup. Despite what some 'professional' installers do they are in actuality going against...

    Grounding Satellite + Antenna

A ground loop is just that, a loop. The correct way to ground a DirecTV dish is to run a single ground to the electric system ground that is connected to the main electrical panel. That is what the National Electric Code requires for an outside antenna. That is what the ground wire on the...

    Grounding Satellite + Antenna

In my original DTV install, I noticed the coax and the dish weren't grounded. My roof at the time had nowhere really to ground it to. It's a flat roof - house was built a couple years ago. At that time, I was canceling directv and I put up a Televes antenna. I added grounding to the mast and...
